God’s purpose for River of Hope:

We go out to transform lives through Jesus Christ.

Our Guiding Principles: disciple = learn

  • God is God and we are not.
  • We are called to grow together as disciples: to forgive, to teach, to love.
  • Disciples are inspired by the Holy Spirit to take risks.
  • Disciples seek God’s justice.
  • Disciples serve with no strings attached.
  • Disciples invite and welcome through loving acceptance.
  • We meet you where you are.

WORSHIP 101

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You are here- you are welcome! You are loved! Regardless of how you got here to worship today, we give God thanks for you. We have been praying for you, asking God to help us see Christ in people we might otherwise not see.

Where everybody knows your name? It’s just not always true. So do the thing with the nametag, even if you’re here every Sunday. Especially if you’re here every Sunday. Once we pretend we know everyone, then it’s easy to start not asking, not sticking out our hand in welcome. Don’t be that guy. Plus, all the cool kids are doing it.

Come as you are. Seriously. Don’t have the “right” clothes? Just finished working in the yard? Rolling into town right before worship begins? Great. Fine. Super. Really. Just come as you are. God loves you for who you are, not what you wear.

Nursery care is available during worship service on Sunday. A schedule of young people has been set up to watch the little ones. Parents do not need to stay with their children in the nursery.

On Line Church Directory is up and running. Please go to ( and enter your email address. A password will be sent to your email for church membership online. Once you have your password please check out the program and update your household profile. [If you’re not in this directory and would like to be added, please email Shyann, the RoH Office Administrator: or call: 320-587-4414]

“Membership”— We don’t have “official membership roles.” But, that doesn’t make us any less church. If you want to make your relationship official with River of Hope, you can say “this is home” by transferring your existing church membership to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, MN. Why? Well, they will “hold” your membership until we are a “chartered” congregation with membership. All you have to do is call or email your former church home and request your membership be transferred to St. Paul. Their address is: 300 Croyden Street, Stewart, MN 55385. Talk to Pastor Laura or Shyann (ROH Office Administrator) if you have questions.

River Life (living an active life of faith)

Small Groups

God is always at work in us, encouraging and building faith through questions, relationships, and community. You need not be “experienced” or an “expert” in faith. Expertise in faith doesn’t exist! Each of these groups is wide open to you.

Men’s Bible Study: 2nd and 4th Thursday each month, 9am @ Hardee’s. October 24. Potential for an evening group to form as well. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never opened the Bible – come to this group with an open mind and open questions and you’ll fit right in. No experience is necessary. It was the first Bible Study for most of the men last year and they all are eager to return. Questions? Dave is at and 320-328-9911.

Eat, Pray, Read Women’s Book Club. This group is taking a break until after the holidays. Watch the weekly for future plans.

Welcome Home 101- (2 sessions = 1 class. 3rd and 4th Sunday each month. 4:00pm) New to River of Hope? We want you to know what's what in this community - what we mean by church - and what the expectations are of people who call this place and people home. (Even if you've called RoH home for a while, you can still come.) WILL START IN NOVEMBER.

The River Sisters Bible Study - The group meets in the Lower level of Harmony River LivingCenter the third Thursday of the month at 10am.Join this intergenerational group of women composed of River of Hope members who “adopt” a resident of Harmony River. Our “adoption” means we help residents by giving them wheel chair rides from their room, to the Bible study. We may help with other small things, as expressed by the resident. Together we read Scripture and share our experiences and wisdom across the generations.Contact Pastor Ane K Fitzgerald, 320-484-6009 .

Second Sunday Service Project – “WE GO OUT” – November 10 at 4pm: Operation Christmas Child.

Please bring: empty shoe boxes, wrapping paper, tape, items to fill the box and cash donations to help ship the boxes. Suggested items include: small toys, school supplies, hard candy, personal notes, hygiene items, etc. for boys or girls ages 2 – 14. If you can’t come, but would like to make a cash donation or pack a box on your own, please contact Kris Dobratz (320-234-5985 or ).

High School Lunches—November 14 is our next event. About 4 times a year, we partner with another church to serve lunch to high school students. We serve between 300 to 450 students. This even takes place at Shalom Baptist Church. If you would like to help with this event, please let Diane Lietzau know. We need people to prepare and serve the meal, prepare sandwiches, set up the dessert table, and general setup. Volunteers are needed from 9 am to 1 pm. Come for a little while or the whole time.

Hospitality Table Meeting—November 18, 6:30 pm, Sue and Laura’s home.

PLAYING in the WORD - Playing in the Word needs your HELP! We need adults and parents who are willing to take the 3 year olds through kindergarteners during the sermon to hear the Bible story and do a quick activity. All materials will be provided for you. The ten minutes goes REALLY fast! Do not be afraid. We will help you. See Kristine Dobratz, Kris Hartman, or Staci Butler if you can help.

WE GO OUT – COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

COMING TOGETHER IN SONG VII-- Common Cup Ministry: Sunday, November 24 at 3pm. Come to the high school to hear individual choir numbers, community vocal groups, and a mass choir. There is no charge for the concert. A free will offering will be taken to help support the outreach ministries of Common Cup Ministry, Inc. Supplemental funding will be provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Beer & Hymns! Come along with ROH as we reach out into the community with Beer and Hymns. It is exactly what the title says. Have a drink of your choice as we sing hymns at “Main Street Sports Bar” the last Tuesday of every month from 7-9pm (with the exception of December – Beer and Carols December 17th). The next Beer and Hymns is November26. The December event will be Beer and Carols on December 17.

Lutheran Marriage Encounter Weekends planned - Fall for each other all over again on a Lutheran Marriage Encounter Weekend. Re-ignite those sparks you felt on your honeymoon by learning exciting new communication skills in a comfortable and private environment away from distractions. Apply at GodLovesMarriage.org to attend the weekendNov. 22-24 in Brooklyn Center. This is marriage enrichment, not counseling. Weekends run from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Dave and Linda Pedersen from River of Hope are one of the presenting couples and welcome your questions. Talk to them at church or call 320-328-9911. For more information contact Peter and Phyllis McMahon at or 763-561-1575. Cost is a $45 registration, plus a free will offering. All lodging and meals are included. Other weekends are Feb. 14-16 (starting Valentine's Day) in Brooklyn Center and April 25-27 in Duluth. Dave and Linda present in February and April.

RIVER CONDITIONS

“Well, what are we going to do about that evening service?” It’s been the question after just two weeks of having two worship services. The morning option seems to be the preferred one leaving the evening worship at lower numbers. It’s the start of something new, so we’ve got to be willing to really see what happens, giving both services time. So let’s keep a “wait and see” attitude and, well, see what happens.

I am so thankful to so many for helping this move go so so well. It’s been an exciting time in our life together and it takes a community to really wade in together to see things through. Thanks to Arnie, Dick, Verlyn and Gary for helping to put together shelves for my office at the Outpost. And for Dale and Arnie and Dick and Jim Nelson for boxing up hymnals and getting the very last of the last stuff out of Vineyard and to the event center or the Outpost.

I give God thanks for this community each and every day and name you by name. Together, we are this church called River of Hope.
