OHAPT TEST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the “OHAPT”?
This is the Orleans-Hannah Algebra Prognosis Test. It is a diagnostic test that helps identify whether the student is ready for algebra and pre-algebra. It consists of “lessons” followed by multiple choice questions on applications of the lesson. There are 50 questions given in this timed test.
How is a student selected to take the OHAPT?
Students who have scored 70% or higher on the math NWEA test are invited to take the OHAPT.
If my student missed the OHAPT can he/she make it up?
Each Gifted Services specialist will offer a testing opportunity which is at the end of the school year on Friday June 10, 2016. Parents should contact their middle school gifted specialist to make a reservation for the test.
When will we receive our student’s OHAPT score?
The results of the OHAPT tests will be put on Skyward. Around the week of June 6, 2016, each student who participated in the OHAPT will receive a letter notifying parents of the student’s math placement for sixth grade. Students will be placed in either Math 6, or Pre-Algebra, the single accelerated math course. If your child qualifies for double acceleration, you will be contacted to discuss whether this is the best option for your child.
What score on the OHAPT is needed to qualify for sixth-grade accelerated math (Pre-Algebra)?
The OHAPT score alone does not determine a student’s placement for middle school math. The OHAPT score in addition to other criteria such as NWEA, MCA, and CogAT tests.You can find information about qualifying score combinations at the Gifted Services website: Rochester.k12.mn.us > departments. Where might I find more information about the Rochester Accelerated Math Program (RAMP)?
There will be an information meeting about RAMP for interested parents at the Edison building Board room on April 14, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. You can also find information on each middle schools’ website under Academics/Special Areas>GATE or the Gifted Services website: Rochester.k12.mn.us > departments.
