PRESIDENT’S COLUMN
Publicity Officer
The Club really needs a Publicity Officer who is prepared to take on the role of looking to the future and publicising events in conjunction with Rob Kennedy, Carol and also the Club Captain and the Ladies’ Captain.
We badly miss out on publicity, largely in the Local Paper, although Carol and Kenno do a great job in house material and Daryl Marr does a great job with FORE.
These people need to continue in those roles but we miss out on the Local Paper particularly and with ideas generally about publicity.
We also have a Facebook presence which is being used more and more, particularly (and more recently) by our Club Captain Rick Wanless.
If you are on Facebook and you have not become a “friend” of the Club, then I suggest you do. “Like” our Club Page and get it out amongst as many friends as we can.
Barry McEntee – Goulburn First National - Club Development Fund
Barry has, in partnership with the Club, established a Development Fund into which he will place $500.00 for every Club member who comes to him and sells property through Goulburn First National.
A very generous offer from Barry who has always been a good supporter and a past Board Member.
Therefore, if you are thinking of selling I encourage you to go to Barry and the people in his office. Margot and I can assure you that they are both expert and professional in selling.
Margot and I recently made that very decision and we can say from personal experience that the effort put into the sale and the level of communication about the sale process from Barry was excellent.
For me, working in a conveyancing industry as much as I do, it was a very interesting experience being “on the other side”, but a pleasant experience and it made Margot and I feel very happy that we had made the decision to get Barry and his team involved.
Sponsors Team Challenge
The Sponsors Team Challenge was held on Sunday 27th August 2017 and turned out to be more of a challenge than a pleasure because of the extremely inclement weather that came in.
Nevertheless, our sponsors were offered an opportunity to play golf and to share the course with their staff and/or customers and we thank all of our sponsors. Remember as you walk around the course, those people who have signs on the course have paid for the privilege of being on that sign and they support us, so please give them the opportunity and support them if you are able to.

FROM MANAGER ROB
Dear Members
As spring is upon us, I would encourage all members to dust off their clubs and get ready for some fine weather. We have some new and exciting changes happening at the club, the first being the introduction of online time sheets. You will start to receive emails from me over the coming month to inform you of these changes and what is needed of you. If you have not received an email as yet please contact the club and update your details.
With regard to the Golf NSW Country Championships which was held on August the 12th and 13th, I would like to thank all the members for giving up the course for our visitors. The weekend was a great success with 120 players for the two days plus dinner on the Saturday night. This raised just under $10,000 for the club.
On another golf issue, we have the Goulburn Cup coming up on the 16th and 17th of September. All members are welcomed to play with great prizes up for grabs, thanks to the sponsorship of Goulburn First National.
Finally, if you have any concerns, please feel free to drop into the club. I would be more than happy to discuss your concerns with you.
CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Hi All
Spring has sprung and there are some big events coming up this spring:
September 11 is our Pro Am.We are still looking for members to play.It is our Pro Am so club support for our competition would be good. Our Trainee, Jake Mitchell, is a big part in running this event, and I am sure he would enjoy your support.
The Goulburn Cup is on 16 and 17 September and a Par 3 event on 24 September.
Every Thursday is the Open Day Single Stableford and our usual Saturday competitions are on.
The Club Championships are on October 21, 22, 28 and 29 and there is a new golf bag up for offer as a random draw for all members playing in all the rounds of the Club Championships.
And now a few points for the new season:
Green Staff
I would like to say that a look at the course and you will see what a great job Dave Laurie and his crew are doing for our course. It looks in great shape and, with the warmer weather coming and some grass growth, it will start to look even better.
Sand Buckets
If you look in the glass case outside next to the old starter’s box you will see a faded sheet about penalties for not carrying a sand bucket. This old rule was passed by a previous board, and this board is going to enforce sand bucket use again.
"A player must carry a sand bucket at any time they are on the course." This is written in the old rule and is still true and the current board will be enforcing this also. It is your course and repairing your divots and pitch marks helps your course and, in turn, your game. The better the course is the easier it is for you to play.
On all Par 3s there is a bucket on the tees for people to fill their divots. Please use them for the betterment of the tees.
We are also introducing a specified hole as a repair hole for the course for a fortnight. A bucket full of sand will be at the start of the repair hole so people can fill their buckets. The idea is that, when you play a shot, you fill your divot and any others in the area of your shot and when on the green you repair your divot and two others. If everyone does this, the course will only get better and better.
A sign will be on the hole that is the repair hole and it will also state the current hole on the sign at the 1st tee. The repair holes for September are 1st Hole from 1st September to 15th September and 2nd Hole from 16th September to 30th September.
Results.
All results are available on the board in the foyer before going upstairs or to the locker room. They are also available on the website and Facebook page.
Remember a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work.

FROM THE GREENKEEPER
Hi All
Hope everyone is enjoying their golf and the course.
From all reports the NSW Country Championships were a success with players enjoying the course, especially the condition of the greens.
I would like to thank Brian Kelly from Queanbeyan Golf Club for the use of their roller to smooth and speed up the greens.
Greg and I have been preparing for the upcoming growth, if these frosts ever stop.
You may have noticed the fairways and greens have been aerated with minimal disruption to play and a green tinge is starting to appear on the fairways.
The new championship tee on 16 has been levelled and seeded, hopefully it will be in play for the club championships.
That’s about it for this month.
Good golfing
David Laurie
Here is a golf ethics question for you.
What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes.
You had the honour and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.
Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.
Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball.
Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says:
"Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'll concede the match."
You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin.
About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods:
"I found it!" The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball andthe ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.
Now here is the ethical dilemma:
Do you pull the cheating bugger’s ball out of your pocket and confront him with it ordo you keep your mouth shut???
Thank for that one, Steve.
