GETTING STARTED – IMMEDIATELY
o Select a point person
o Register your organization online by October 20 by clicking Register My Nonprofit.
o Mark your calendars for December 1, 2016, as well as any other important dates listed in Important Dates for Nonprofits in the Nonprofit Toolkit.
o Set clear goals and develop a communication plan around those goals.
o Visit the Nonprofit Toolkit often for help with planning your fundraising!
SEPTEMBER
o “Like” the Kearney Area Community Foundation on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter @KearneyGives.
o Begin planning your organization’s fundraising strategy and decide on a fundraising goal.
o Register to attend an information/training session hosted by KACF by calling (308) 237-3114.
o If you are not currently using social media as a marketing tool, start now.
o Consider a direct mail campaign – postcards, letters, flyers, newsletters, etc. (if your budget permits).
OCTOBER
o Set up or update your organization’s fundraising page on Razoo and complete by October 31.
o If you have chosen to host a Giving Destination, plan and finalize your organization’s giving day festivities. Fill out the form and send to KACF by October 31, so we can promote your event.
o Approach potential donors about providing a Charitable Challenge matching grant incentive exclusively for your organization. See Nonprofit Toolkit to learn more about Charitable Challenges.
o Send a 90-character description of your nonprofit organization to Laurel Rosado at KACF. () Include your logo and a picture or video. Due: October 31
o Plan to promote the event in your email, social media, website homepage and other creative outlets.
o Consider planning and/or hosting a Giving Destination event to be held on December 1 at your space (or other related location) to promote your organization’s mission/purpose.
o Reach out to top donors and friends of your organization to inspire giving on December 1.
o Include information in your organization’s newsletter, especially regarding the Challenge Match Pool, Nonprofit Bonus grants and Golden Ticket prizes.
NOVEMBER
o Execute your plans to promote via email, social media, website homepage, etc.
o Personally ask top donors and promote the day in regular conversation.
o If chosen, mail direct mail pieces – postcards, letters, flyers, newsletters, etc.
o Promote the convenience of donating online early. Donate between November 1 and December 1, 2016.
o Update your social media feeds with a link to the Give Where You Live landing page: http://www.GiveWhereYouLive.Razoo.com and the hashtag #KearneyGives.
o Watch video on how to Promote your Razoo Fundraiser Page! in the Nonprofit Toolkit to setup Facebook and website widgets.
1-2 Weeks Before Give Where You Live (November 14 – November 28)
o Email supporters to remind them about the day.
o Update Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis. Include stories, pictures or videos in your postings.
o Reach out to online contacts you already have relationships with and let them know about Give Where You Live. Encourage them to write or tweet about it.
o Recruit volunteers and finalize volunteer duties for your Giving Destination event. Prepare all necessary outreach materials (prep materials, handouts, social media plans, etc.).
o If you have secured a Charitable Challenge, set up the matching grant on Razoo and publicize it.
1 Day Before Give Where You Live (November 30)
o Send out email blast reminders to supporters and ask them to spread the word.
o Encourage your staff to do one-on-one outreach to their friends and families.
o Continue posting on social media during the day. Be sure to include other users in your conversations or provide links to third party stories.
o Consider calling donors you haven’t reached by email to remind them about the day.
Give Where You Live! (December 1)
o Send three emails throughout the day to supporters to help create a sense of urgency. Your emails should do the following:
o Update them on fundraising progress.
o Remind them of your overall goal.
o Provide a reason for them to give, like the Challenge Grant and other prizes.
o Let them know if your organization has won any “prizes”.
o Encourage them to give during “off” hours to increase your chances of winning a Golden Ticket for your organization! Midnight – 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to Midnight.
o Utilize Facebook and Twitter to cheer on donors with status updates.
o Don’t forget to promote on social media to give to your cause during the evening hours.
The Day After Give Where You Live (December 2)
o Announce your successes on your Facebook/Twitter/website.

§ Number of donors
§ How the funds raised will be used by your organization to change lives in the Kearney Area!
o Thank your donors through email and social media.
o Tell them how their donation will be put to good work and will make a difference.
o Send handwritten thank you notes or make phone calls to top donors.
o Add all new donors to your database; invite them to cultivation events and/or one-on-one meetings.
o Remove the Razoo donation widgets from your website – unless you are keeping it for year-round donations (Razoo charges 6.9% for gifts made outside of Give Where You Live 2016).
o Fill out survey for Kearney Area Community Foundation about your experience.
