Psychology Demonstratorships / PhD Bursaries
The Psychology Section of the Faculty of Development & Society at Sheffield Hallam University intends to appoint two Demonstrators on three-year fixed term studentships from 1 October 2008. Demonstrators will undertake certain teaching assistant duties such as helping conduct psychology laboratories, in addition to working towards a PhD qualification. A bursary of £12,940 per annum is payable to support your full-time PhD research studies and tuition fees are paid for by the University. The studentships are open to UK/EU candidates only and applicants should hold a 1st or 2.1 honours degree.
The following research areas are of particular interest to the Section at the moment, and preference will be given to applicants with an interest in developing research in one of these areas:
The social teenage brain: Mapping the development of social cognitive and executive function ability in late adolescence. Dr Lynne Barker, Dr Lisa Reidy & Dr Sue McHale.
The building blocks of language: Investigating the role of phonology in lexical processing. Dr Jane Morgan, Dr Anna Weighall & Dr Sue McHale.
Examining the process of forgiveness within a religious context. Prof. Ann Macaskill & Dr Rachel Abbott.
Cognitive processing of calorie-dense foodstuffs in non-clinical populations: Implications for eating behaviour and food craving. Dr Sue McHale, Dr Lynne Barker & Dr Jane Morgan.
Understanding human cooperation as an evolved trait. Dr Rick O'Gorman, Dr Will Reader & Dr Maddy Arden.
Other areas of research interest may be considered. Applicants are urged to consult the Psychology staff web pages to ascertain that the area they wish to propose is one about which members of the Section have an interest.
