A Review on Three important Different Methods of Hardsurfacing

This manuscript is a selection of more than 10 M.Sc. and PhD thesis on hard-surfacing with cast rode, cored-wire and F.S.P. The first part is about investigations on hard-surfacing process using cast rode with adding different percent of ferro—alloy (Mn, Cr, Mo, Nb) in melted cast iron and then casting in tube (steel or ceramic) which is joint to vacuum system. The rods had been machined after solidification. The casted rods had been deposited on steel plates via GTAW process and then abrasion test (ASTM G60) with quartz particles has been applied. The investigations showed that wear resistance improved 6 to 15 times of base plate. Also the hardness improved from 150HV to 560 HV. The second part contains the results from hard-facing using cored wire. The cored wire were produced using AISI 430 strip via drawing process with different powder composition containing Cr~17% with different w.t% of Mn within them. The cored wire were deposited using SAW process. Abrasion (ASTM G65) and Pin-on-Disk, hardness and charpy test have been applied. Also Effect of volume fraction of carbide on toughness, wear resistance has been studied. The last part includes the result of F.S.P in hard-facing which were used for fabrication of surface composite. SiC and B4C particles were uniformly dispersed into Al1100 matrix. Using different volume percent of SiC and B4C were distributed using multi-pass F.S.P. The hardness of surface composite reinforced with SiC and B4C was almost 1.7 and 4 times of substrate respectively. Also wear resistance (Pin-On-Disk) improved. F.S.P in dry ice showed improving of hardness and wear resistance much more than in room temperature.
Biography
Prof. Amir Hossein Kokabi has completed his B.Sc. in 1970 from Sharif University of Technology and PhD at the age of 33 years from University of Strathclyde. He is the founder and director of welding center of excellence of Sharif University of technology. He has published more than 130 papers in reputed journals and has been supervising of more than 17 PhD and 80 M.Sc. thesis
