Farnborough is the oldest continuously operational airfield in the UK and is now Europe’s leading business aviation airport. In this lecture Brandon O’Reilly will briefly review the airfield’s history from its earliest days as home to the Royal Aircraft Factory and site of the UK’s first powered flight through to its eventual sale by the Ministry of Defence to TAG Aviation in 2003. The lecture will then go on to describe the airfield’s more recent development and establishment of the modern infrastructure needed to serve and support 21st Century business aviation. Mr O’Reilly will discuss the all-important issue of community engagement and the efforts by the Company to foster ‘good neighbour’ relationships, with both the local public and local government. The concluding part of the lecture will touch on the expected future trends in business aviation and the plans for the future evolution of FarnboroughAirport to maintain its position in this sector.
