Official Entry Rules -- “A Different Look at Yosemite’s Treasures”
150th Anniversary of Yosemite Land Grant Photography Exhibition
Overview: Madera County Arts Council (MCAC) seeks entries to a juried photography exhibition “A Different Look at Yosemite’s Treasures.” The exhibition will take place May 13 to May 27, 2014 (reception on Saturday, May 17, 2014, 4-7 pm). Any California resident may enter. THERE IS NO FEE TO ENTER. Entrants will be asked to attest that they created the image and that it has never been professionally exhibited or published.
Yosemite National Park has been a mystical and visual inspiration for generations of visitors and residents. Photography is one of the many ways artists and visitors alike have recorded and shared Yosemite. MCAC anticipates that this themed photography show will encourage local residents and park visitors to look closer at all the wonders of Yosemite – plant, animal, geological, hydrological, architectural, ?, … and share their personal vision. These entry instructions and complete exhibit details will be also posted on our website (www.maderaarts.org). Any questions should be directed to our e-mail at .
1. Eligibility: This contest is open to all California residents (residents under 18 years of age require parental approval). While there are no restrictions regarding image capture date, images should not have been previously professionally exhibited or published.
2. Entry: To enter the Contest, submit a photograph or digital file of a Yosemite “treasure.” Each entrant may submit up to ten (10) images. The photographs must have been taken by the entrant who holds all the rights therein. Photos that include images of identifiable persons must be accompanied by a release. Entries must be received by May 2, 2014, whether e-mailed (), mailed or delivered to the Circle Gallery (1653 N. Schnoor, Ste 113, Madera, CA 93637). Limit e-mail files to 2MB (1280 pixels on the longest side), JPG compression quality medium (7). Please provide telephone and e-mail contact information with each entry.
3. Narrative: For each image also provide a short description of image location, equipment, technique (if applicable) and personal meaning/inspiration of the image.
4. Format and Editing: Digital and film images are eligible. There are no restrictions on image editing, as long as the entrant created the original image.
5. Selection: Photographs will be selected by a jury chosen by MCAC. Photographers will be notified on May 5, 2014 by e-mail or by phone.
6. Presentation and Framing Guidelines: Framed images cannot exceed 36” x 36”. All selected images should be matted and framed using modest wood or metal frame moldings with clean lines in black, neutral, white, or silver finishes. All work must be delivered ready-to-hang, with a wire cresting 2” from the top of the frame (stainless steel braided wire works very well). Do not use saw tooth hangers or “snap on” poster type frames, or corner clips with glass. Please use neutral tones (white, off white, gray or black only) for matting. Framed images should be delivered to the Circle Gallery by May 9, 2014 (unless alternative arrangements are made in advance)
7. Exhibition: Selected photographs will be displayed at the Circle Gallery from May 13 thru May 26, 2014.
8. General Conditions: Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Exhibition jury. Submission of an entry shall constitute the grant of a non-exclusive, royalty free license to the Madera County Arts Council to display and to utilize the photograph for publicity and informational purposes related to the 150th Anniversary of Yosemite Grant celebrations (for example local newspapers, MCAC internet, social media outlets). Entrants further grant to MCAC the right of use and to publish their proper name on the Internet and in print, or in any other media in connection with the Exhibition.
Disclaimer: No responsibility is assumed by the Madera County Arts Council for lost, late, misdirected, illegible, or mutilated entries or for any computer, online telephone or technical malfunctions that may occur. By entering, participants thereby release and hold harmless the Madera County Arts Council, its employees and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Exhibition.
