Important notice regarding the Local Scholarships listed below: CHS Guidance has not yet received the applications for all of the scholarships listed. We have contacted all of the following organizations and asked them to send the scholarship applications ASAP. Deadlines listed are based on LAST YEAR’S applications. Please check the actual application carefully for the required deadlines. All scholarship applications can be picked up in the lobby of the Guidance Office.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Scholarship

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

Must show evidence of financial need

Must include a one page typed essay and two letters of recommendation

Must be a minority member

Application must be mailed to the scholarship committee chair

Athletic Booster’s Scholar Athlete Scholarship

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Awarded a minimum of two Varsity letters

Parent/legal guardian shows proof of membership in CHS Athletic Booster’s Club

Candidate must submit an essay and a recommendation of a coach

Submit application to the Athletic Director

Beta Club Scholarship

Specific Criteria

Candidate must be an active member of the Beta Club

Interested students must contact an advisor.

Black Men's Organization Scholarship

The value of the scholarship will be announced later.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must be an active member of the BMO.

Clinton High School PTSO Scholarship

The value of this scholarship is $500

Specific Criteria

Applicant’s parent(s)/guardian must be a current member of the CHS PTSO

An essay and a transcript must be submitted

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

Clinton Kiwanis Club Scholarships

The club established two scholarships to be awarded annually in honor of Mr. Jasper Hinson and memory of Mr. Jesse Mercer. The value of the non-renewable scholarships is $750 each.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must be an active member of the Key Club.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Scholarship (Delta Mu Chapter)

Selection will be based on academic achievement with some consideration to need. Scholarship is valued at $500.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must be female

Declared major -Education

Application must be mailed to the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship

The Clinton Alumnae Chapter is a service organization that offers a $500 scholarship annually.

Specific Criteria

Student must submit one letter of recommendation, a sealed transcript and a brief essay

Student must have earned at least a "B" average

Application must be mailed to the Clinton Alumnae Chapter

Edward W. Taylor Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist deserving marching band students in furthering their education. Scholarship is valued at $1000.

Specific Criteria

Applicant must have exhibited loyalty, dedication, and hard work in the CHS Marching Band.

Other criteria include GPA, tenure in the CHS Band Program and music performance.

Frank and Kate Turlington Scholarship

Mr. W. H. Turlington established the Frank and Kate Turlington scholarship in honor of his parents. The value of this scholarship is $700 renewable for four years.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have at least a "B" average

Declared major - Business Administration or some related field

Must be enrolled in a four-year program

Gray Felton Butler Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, valued at $1000, was established in loving memory of Gray Butler to reward a senior who has displayed excellence and involvement in athletics, academics, extra curricular activities and community service.

Specific Criteria

Student must have attended CHS for at least the last two years of high school

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and made a firm commitment to attend a four-year college/university

Lion’s Club Scholarship

The value of this scholarship is $1000

Specific Criteria

Students must provide a personal statement, a recent photograph, a transcript, two letters of recommendation and a verification of employment (if employed)

Lois Weaver Drama Scholarship

This scholarship is given jointly by the Sampson Arts Council and Sampson Community Theatre to one recipient who has made a contribution to the community through involvement in the dramatic arts and is valued at $500.

Specific Criteria

Students must write a narrative, include a transcript and three letters of recommendation

Application must be mailed to the address on the application

Martin Leder Scholarship

Family and friends established the Leder scholarship to encourage students to exhibit the exemplary qualities of good citizenship as modeled by Martin Leder. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant best filling the prescribed eligibility criteria and is valued at $1000.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Preference may be given to a student with a declared interest in studying business or engineering

Mattie Peterson Memorial Scholarship

Her children established this scholarship in loving memory of Mattie Beard Peterson. The award is $250 for a two-year institution or $500 for a four-year institution.

Specific Criteria

Includes GPA, financial need, community and civic involvement, and SAT scores

Application must be mailed to Mrs. Sarah McKoy

Sampson Community College Scholarships

Students will be considered for numerous scholarships upon submitting application.

Specific Criteria

Transcript must be included with the application

Application must be mailed to the Financial Aid Office

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 15, 2012

Sampson Community College Foundation Scholarship

Sampson Community College Foundation Academic scholarships are awarded to one senior from each of the six high schools located in Sampson County. Amount of each award is $1000.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must be in the top 25% of graduating class (Rank 38th or higher)

Candidate must mail completed “Award for Academic Excellence” application

Candidate must have approval to enroll at SCC

Sampson County-Clinton Retired School Personnel Scholarship

This scholarship was established to encourage students to enter the teaching profession. Two $300 scholarships will be awarded.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have a high school average of 85 or above

Declared major-Teaching

Financial need must be evidenced

Applicants will be interviewed.

Sampson High School Alumni Association Education Grants

The Sampson High School Alumni Association established the grants. The grants are awarded to the applicants best filling the prescribed eligibility criteria. Creed, race, color or national origin shall never be a factor in determining the winners. The association awards a $1500 and $500 renewable scholarships.

Specific Criteria

Candidates must have at least a "C" average

A copy of parent’s income tax return must accompany application

Parent's information form must be notarized, recent photograph must be submitted

Application must be completed on-line, printed and mailed to the address provided.

SECU Foundation Scholarship

The State Employees’ Credit Union will award each public high school one scholarship valued at $10,000. The recipient must attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina system.

Specific Criteria

Candidate has demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement

Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 15, 2012

W. Arthur Chestnutt Scholarship

Mr. W. Arthur Chestnutt made provisions in his will for the establishment and funding of scholarships for college study. The scholarships are $250 renewable for four years. Two are awarded each year to a black male and black female graduate.

Specific Criteria

Candidate must have at least a "B" average
