The following is an update to the ChyTV Hardware/Software Setup Guide which describes how to configure and address the ChyTV IP hardware for use with a Local Area Network.
ChyTV Ethernet Configuration
When using a ChyTV with Ethernet connection, you must be able to configure the ChyTV with the appropriate network settings to control the ChyTV, and/or send new content to it.
The ChyTV-IP product does not have DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), rather, it uses Fixed IP addresses. Therefore, the network configuration must be done at installation time. It is best to enlist the help of the Network Administrator for the facility in which the ChyTV is being deployed, as you will need:
1)A compact flash reader/writer
2)An IP Address for the ChyTV
3)A default Gateway for the local network
4)The subnet mask for the local network
IP Address:
The IP Address is a 32-bit number comprised of a host number and a network prefix, both of which are used to uniquely identify each node within a network. Simply put, the IP address is a location on the network which uniquely identifies the device with that address.
Default Gateway:
A gateway is a device used to connect networks when using the IP protocol. In order to communicate with a host on another network, an IP host must be configured with a route to the destination network. If a configuration route is not found, the host uses the gateway to transmit the traffic to the destination host. The default gateway is where the IP sends packets that are destined for remote networks. If no default gateway is specified, communication is limited to the local network.
Subnet Mask:
A subnet mask is used to mask a portion of the IP address, so that TCP/IP can tell the difference between the network ID and the host ID. TCP/IP uses the subnet mask to determine whether the destination is on a local or remote network.
Getting Started:
Insert the ChyTV Compact Flash card into the reader/writer and find the appropriate drive letter associated with it.
(In this example we use G: )
Locate the “IP.txt” file and Edit it . . .
Now, you can change the value for the
IP ADDRESS
Default Gateway
And Subnet Mask
Then, be sure to save your changes and remove the compact flash safely from the reader/writer.
Once the compact flash disk is reloaded into the ChyTV and the ChyTV is booted, it will then have the IP Address, Default Gateway and Subnet Mask as entered above.
On the Software side, you will need to identify the IP address of the unit you just configured. In the ChyTV Tools software, please find the Options Menu and select “Connections”.
You will see the Connections screen within Options . . .
Now, you should see the “Modify IP Address” dialog . . .
1st type in the address for the Unit as you configured on the Compact Flash.
2nd Click Add
3rd Click Save to
complete your changes
**** NOTE – You must re-start ChyTV tools to ensure the software will connect to each ChyTV IP unit you have entered on this screen.
