We value parent communication and involvement. Your partnership is essential to your child’s school success. Please join us, and support your child in the following areas to maximize his/her school performance:
· Send your child to school adequately rested and prepared for the day.
· Encourage your child to do his/her best each day. Praise work that is done well!
· Introduce yourself to your child’s teacher. Communicate frequently.
· Volunteer and participate in classroom activities and school events.
· Talk to your child about daily school activities….listen to their thoughts and ideas.
· Share literacy….read books together and discuss them.
· Mark future school events on your calendar.
· Need extra help? Contact your child’s teacher or the principal for assistance.
Each year is a “new adventure” for your child with many opportunities. We look forward to sharing this year with you!

DANSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GUIDELINES AND STUDENT POLICIES
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
· The State of Michigan School Attendance Law requires that student attendance be continuous and consecutive. The Dansville School Board has an attendance policy and standards for attendance. Students with excessive tardies or absences (10% or more) will be notified quarterly by letter or telephone call. All absences and tardies are recorded on the student’s school records.
· Student Absence: Parents need to notify the school in the morning of a student’s absence. This may be done by telephone (623-6120, ext. 226) or by note with a sibling or neighbor student. The school secretary will call the home of all unreported absences. Unreported absences will be noted as “excuse pending” for three days. Parents have three days to notify the school the reason for the absence. After three school days, the absence will be recorded as “unexcused”. “Family vacation days” are counted as student absence days.
· Tardies: All students must be in their classrooms ready for instruction at 8:00 a.m. Students that are not in their classrooms at this time are tardy. All late arriving students must be accompanied in the building by a parent and signed in.
Excused Tardies: Illness, medical related
appointments, and poor driving conditions will be
documented as excused tardies.
Unexcused Tardies: Oversleeping, slow starts, and
not signed in by a parent late arrivals will be documented as unexcused tardies. Parents are responsible for the prompt arrival of elementary students. Three unexcused tardies per quarter will result in an administrative telephone call. Excessive unexcused tardies will result in a request for an administrative conference with possible referral to the Ingham Truant Officer.
ARRIVAL and DISMISSAL
· All students riding in cars must be “dropped off” or “picked up” from the fenced-in parking lot. Students will use the crosswalk with the adult crossing guard.
· Parents needing to enter the school during arrival or dismissal times should park their cars in the fenced lot and use the crosswalk.
Elementary School Hours:
Kindergarten – Grade 5: 8:00 a.m. to 2:56 p.m.
· Arrival: The elementary building will be opened at 7:55 a.m. Students should not arrive before 7:55 a.m. Breakfast will be available at 7:55 a.m. Students will eat breakfast in their classrooms until 8:15 a.m.
· Early Dismissal: Parents need to come to the office and request their children for early dismissal. All students must be signed out by parents. The school secretary will call for students to come to the office. Parents should not go to the classroom to request early dismissal. Please call the secretary in the morning if your child needs to be picked up during the day for an appointment.
· Regular Dismissal: Teachers will dismiss children each day at 2:56 p.m. All parents should wait at the entry ways to pick up children. Please do not wait outside of the classroom doors. This causes congestion at dismissal.
· Bicycles: Students may not ride bicycles to school because of the extremely heavy traffic before and after school.
