Action Component: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

  1. Professional Development:
  1. On September 16, Vicki Conyer, Teresa Span, Steve Ybarzabal, Stacey Overlin, and Donald Shively attended the Instructional Leadership Network meeting focused on implementing the Professional Growth and Evaluation System (PGES).
  2. On September 17, Dr. Greene and Donald Shively attended a KDE training in Bowling Green on implementing the Principal Professional Growth and Evaluation System (PPGES).
  3. On September 26, three teachers from our district attended a training hosted by WKEC on implementing the new Common Core Science Standards.
  4. On September 30, Donald Shively attended training by KDE on using the Val-Ed standards for the new Principal Professional Growth and Evaluation System (PPGES).
  5. On October 4, the district held one of its four flex professional development days.

  1. Review of Unbridled Learning:

Year 2 – 2012-13 (Next-Generation Learners)

A criterion model begins focusing on the Overall Score. The Percentile Rank in Kentucky in Year 1 enabled an Overall Score to become the criterion or standard for Proficient. In Year 2, achieving a specific Overall Score, not the 70th percentile rank, determines whether a school or district is Proficient. Regardless of percentile rank, all schools that reach the Overall Score for Proficient are labeled Proficient. In theory, with the criterion model, 100% of schools can be Proficient or higher.

A criterion model compares the performance of schools and districts to a standard; in this case, the standard is a specific Overall Score.

The Overall Score on the Next-Generation Learners component needed for each level of school and district for the summer of 2013 reporting is shown below.

  1. Monthly meetings with individual school administrators over improving curriculum, instruction, and assessment are continually ongoing.

b. On October 17, Dr. Greene and Donald Shively met with all of the principals to review each school’s achievement, gap, growth, CCR, and graduation goals for the 2013-14 school year.
