Zero Tolerance for Academic Dishonesty

It is our expectation at Spring Valley High School that all students will perform academic tasks with honor and integrity. The learning process requires students to think, process, organize, and create their own ideas. Throughout this process, students gain knowledge, self-respect, a sense of responsibility, and ownership of the work they do.

Academic dishonesty presents itself in many ways through copying others work, plagiarism, giving answers/sharing work with another student, using cell phone at inappropriate times, falsifying results, collaborating without teacher permission, and talking during exams. All students involved will receive an AD grade equal to 25%.

Additional Grading Notes:

  • Late work definition – Work not submitted, for reasons other than absence, when it is requested or due. Absences fall under the category of Make-up Work and Make-up Work is allowed; please see the Make-up Work Policy section.
  • Late work is not accepted. Students are given ample time to complete assignments in class before they become due. If additional assistance or time is needed to complete class assignments I offer computer lab time after school. Please see below for details.
  • Student grades can be viewed online in Infinite Campus (IC). Students are strongly encouraged to utilize their IC account because grades are not posted in the classroom. Please arrange to meet with me after school to discuss grades or send an email if you have specific questions or concerns.
  • Oral, written, or typed assignments with inappropriate or offensive language, text language, graffiti, symbols, violence, drugs, sex, whether indirect or direct will not be graded.

Rounding Grade Guidelines:

Student’s quarter grades and semester grades will be rounded to the next whole number. For example, if a student grade is 89.500% their grade will be rounded to 90%. Example #2, if a student grade is 80.499% their grade will be rounded to 80%. Students are graded on their individual work.

Semester Grade:

The student's semester grade is weighted and determined by calculating the first quarter percentage grade at 40% weight, calculating the second quarter percentage grade at 40% weight, and the semester examination percentage at 20% weight.

Citizenship Grade:

A citizenship grade of O (Outstanding), S (Satisfactory), (N) Needs Improvement, or U (Unsatisfactory) will be given quarterly based on the following criteria: your preparedness for class, class participation, attendance and timeliness, behavior, respect and care for classroom equipment and furniture.

Make-up Work Policy:

A. Students are responsible for obtaining missed assignments from Google Classroom. Students have three days for each day they were absent to complete and turn-in make-up work. Computer related make-up work must be done in the classroom after school during computer lab.

B. After School Computer Lab – Computer lab time is the most effective and efficient manner to make-up tests, quizzes, computer related assignments, discuss grades, and/or to receive additional assistance. Ms. Bierria has computer lab in her classroom (Room 325) after school on select days. Computer lab days and times are posted in classroom. The dates vary based upon meetings and other after school commitments. Please check with Ms. Bierria if you are planning to attend computer lab to determine availability. Students are welcome to come to computer lab as often as needed to make-up assignments or to receive additional assistance, if needed.

.Tardy Policy:

You are tardy if you are not inside the classroomwhen the tardy bell rings (after passing period). Spring Valley’s tardy policies will be strictly enforced in my class.

The distractions caused by students arriving late to class are unfair to the teacher and are an infringement on the educational rights of students. You miss instructional time and learning activities when you arrive late to class. Therefore, we will start this class ON TIME!! Being "on time" is crucial to your success in this class and in any type of employment.

Tardy Progressive Plan includes: phone call home, after-school detention (1:20 – 2p), and/or referral to dean’s office for further disciplinary action. Refusal to show for detention will result in an automatic dean’s referral. The dean’s office will use discretion for assigning the next consequence for the student.

Restroom Policy:

It is highly recommended that students attend personal needs prior to entering the class. Passes to restroom will be allowed based upon teacher discretion. Passes will not be given during directions/instructional time, the first 10 minutes of class, the last 10 minutes of class,fire/emergency drills, or for other personal matters like counselors, dean office, lockers, and etc.

Studentswith a medical condition that require frequent use of the restroom should provide the nurse’s office at Spring Valley with the proper information from their physician so teachers can be properly informed. Nurse passes are issued upon request and may be verified with nurse office that student arrived. Abuse of pass privileges will result in discontinuance of restroom passes.

Dress Code Enforcement:

Ms. Bierria will enforce CCSD Regulation 5131 Dress Code Policy as adopted by Spring Valley High School. Spring Valley administration will enforce consequences for dress code violations.

Progressive Discipline Plan:

The course expectation serves as a warning please do not expect additional warnings. A violation of classroom policies will result in the following discipline plan implemented by Ms. Bierria. It is at the discretion of Ms. Bierria whether the student’s behavior warrants the following discipline plan or if an immediate dean referral is most appropriate (step five). The following discipline plan does not replace disciplinary actions that may be implemented by the Deans’ Office, an Administrator, or the Clark County School District (CCSD).

Step One:Student Conference, if appropriate before moving to next discipline level.

Step Two:After School Detention (transportation home is the student and parent/guardian responsibility).
