Kindergarten Nine Week Plans
First Nine Weeks
The kindergarten student will be immersed in a language-rich environment to develop oral language skills in all areas of instruction. The first nine weeks we will focus on the following Units:
- School routines / Citizenship
- Colors / Shapes
- Apples
- Water Properties / Sink and Float
- School, Bus and Fire Safety
- Autumn
- Rhyme
- The Alphabet and Phonemic Awareness
- Recognize and Write our name
- Numbers
We will teach these units utilizing all areas of instruction:
ENGLISH:We will read a variety of literary forms on these units.
We will write in our journals and make class books.
We will use the listening center and computers.
We will understand how print is organized and read.
We will participate in shared and guided reading lessons.
We will participate in phonemic awareness activities.
We will identify orally words that rhyme.
We will read 1-1 with our Third Grade Reading Buddies.
We will understand fiction and nonfiction.
We will print the uppercase and lowercase letters.
We will practice writing our first name.
We will read our name and our classmates’ names.
We will make predictable charts.

MATH:We will identify the calendar and clock.
We will make graphs of colors, names, apples, etc.
We will count the days we are in school.
We will teach place value by counting the days in school.
We will teach counting by 2, 5, 10 using the days in school.
We will recognize numerals to 30.
We will sort and classify colors, shapes, names, apples, etc.
We will use tally marks when counting items.
We will identify, describe, and draw 2-D geometric figures.
We will describe location of one object related to another.
We will identify, describe, & extend patterns found in common objects, sounds, and movements.
We will see patterns on our number graph, colors, etc.
We will use manipulatives.
We will use the Math Workbooks.
We will make art projects.

SCIENCE:We will make color wheels.
We will cook with apples.
We will teach about the season Autumn.
We will teach about trees and leaves.
We will teach about apples and pumpkins.
We will weigh and measure pumpkins.
We will learn about sink and float.
We will perform various activities to test the concept of sink and float.
We will take a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch.

HISTORY AND SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will teach good citizenship through manners and school rules.
We will describe the present and the past and that things change.
We will use simple maps and globes.
We will learn positional words near/far, above/below, left/right, behind/in front of, to describe the location of people, places, and things.
We will describe simple descriptions of work that people do.
We will recognize the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance.
