Next week is Parent Conference Week where many of you will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher to discuss academic skills, behavior and work habits. As you prepare for your conference, please think about questions you may have about your child's progress. Please arrive at your conference at your scheduled time. Due to the number of conferences we are on a very tight schedule. We look forward to sharing your child's successes. Make sure you take note of the week's schedule changes. All students are dismissed at 2:09 on Monday and Tuesday, no school on Wednesday and 12:30 dismissal on Thursday and Friday.
Thank you the Marisol Borboa and her team for an amazing variety show. Our Tesoro Superheroes showed off their incredible talents on stage Friday night. This week we are having encore performances for our students.
Last night was the American Legion 5th - 8th Grade Writing Scholarship Awards event. We are proud to report and want to extend congratulations to Ava Francis, who took first place, and Jaiden Ha and Angelina Mourad who tied for second place. Great Work!
The Site Council meeting is today at 4:30 p.m. All parents are invited to attend.
Please join us on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. for our PTA meeting. Elections will take place for our 2017-2018 PTA Board.
Teachers in grades 3 - 6 are busy preparing students for the upcoming California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. This includes students visiting the computer lab to improve keyboarding skills and taking practice assessments. As parents, you can support your child at home by reviewing the practice tests located at Your child can also practice keyboarding skills on the Typing Club website.
Thank you for your support in following traffic rules around our campus. Please remember there is no parking during pick up in the front parking lot and the lot by the lunch area.
Please remember that attendance is important to your child's education. Students miss valuable instruction when they are absent or tardy. Encourage your child to wash their hands often to avoid common colds and flu.
Please use the valet line for drop off and pick up. If your child has signed up to participate in the valet or escort program, please remind them to be diligent in honoring their commitment (students should arrive at 7:45 a.m. on their appointed day(s). Please have your children use designated crosswalks at all times. Safety is our number one concern.
We ask that students coming to school (grades 1-6) enter the playground using the front gate. Kindergarten students and parents please enter through the side gate. The gates open at 7:50 am.
Students need to be on campus by 8:05 a.m. Students are tardy if they are not in their class line at 8:10 a.m.

SAFETY
Please be courteous and follow the safety guidelines in the parking lot and around the school.The safety of all our students is our number one concern. Please help us by following these rules when dropping your students off in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. Please drive slowly in the Parking Lot.
Please enter Bernardo Way from Mission Trail. Mission Trail can be accessed from Rio Ranch Way. Please avoid taking Mission Trail from Rancho Tesoro Drive.
If you are parking and walking up:
- If you are walking your child on to the campus, please use the sidewalks. Do not walk through the parking lot or through the drop-off lane.
- Please park on the school side of the street. If you park on the opposite side of the street, please cross above the exit driveway. It is unsafe to cross through cars leaving the driveway.
- Avoid using Tango Drive to make u-turns and for drop off. This is a private street and it has no sidewalks.
- Drop-off begins at 7:50 am. There is no supervision before this time.
- Only right turns will be allowed when entering and exiting the driveway.
- Make one lane only. Students can only be dropped off on the school side.
- The valet zone begins after the blue crosswalk. Students should not exit your car before you reach this area.
- Please pull all the way up. Once you are stopped, have students exit the car. Do not wait to pull up to the first spot.
- Students should remain in their seat belts until you have stopped to let them out.
- Do not drop your Kindergartner off at the Kindergarten gate.
- Do not exit your car. Students need to be ready to exit the car with backpacks, etc.
- Please do not put backpacks in the trunk.
- Please be patient. Do not honk at the cars in front of you.
- The parking spaces are for staff parking only. Do not use them for student drop-off.

Saugus Union School District Festival of Arts
OnFriday, June 2nd at 5:30 pm, Saugus Union School District will hold its 7th annual Festival of the Arts event at Grace Baptist Church. Over 300 students from all 15 schools will come together in a celebration of the arts. Students will exhibit their musical talents as members of the honors chorus or orchestra/band while others will recite original poetry or showcase their beautifully crafted works of art.
The goal of the Festival of Arts is to provide our students an opportunity to express their musical/artistic talents in front of friends, family and the community. Through this event, students will enhance their talents and develop a sense of community.
Below are opportunities for our students to participate in the Festival of Arts.
Honors Orchestra/Band
The Orchestra/Band are opened to students in grades 4-6. Please see below for information regarding audition and rehearsal schedule.
SUSD Honors Band/Orchestra Audition and Rehearsal Schedule
Location: Mountainview Elementary School (22201 Cypress Pl, Santa Clarita, CA 91390)
Audition Dates & Times: 3/29 or 3/30 between5:00 and 7:00 pmin Room 22

One student from TK to 6thgrade will be selected to share an original poem at the Festival of Arts. If your child is interested in participating in the Honors Poetry,please submit an original poem written by the student (Theme: Friendship) toyour child's teacher/school office byFriday, April 14. The student who will represent the school will be selected byFriday, April 21, 2017, and the participation permission slip for Festival of the Arts will be sent home with the student.

Visual Arts
The Visual Art Projects are open to students in grades TK-6. If your child is interested in participating creating a Visual Arts Project related to the theme Friendship,please submit the original student artwork byFriday, April 28th. Six art pieces will be selected for showcase at the Festival of Arts.
INFINITE CAMPUS
The Saugus Union School District is excited to announce that we have changed our student information systems.
The previous Parent Portal in Aeries will no longer be available. Please advise the school office directly if you have to make any changes to your child's information. We look forward to this new adventure and will keep you posted with updates.
ATTENDANCE/HEALTH OFFICE
Please remember to call the office before 9:00 a.m. the morning that your student will be absent from school. The State of California requires a specific reason, "not feeling well" or "sick" are not acceptable. Please let us know if your child has a cold, is vomiting, is out of town, etc. Thank you.
SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN OVER40
Applications for the Virginia Wrage Memorial Fund scholarship are now being accepted by the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley. The deadline to submit an application isMarch 30, 2017. The scholarship was created in 1995 to honor Virginia Wrage, a dedicated and beloved Zonta member who at age 50 faced a family crisis that required her to make a career change. The scholarship is designed to help women over40who face similar circumstances in their life. Women must be residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. Awards range from $500 to $3,000.
