SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS (SSI)

This sheet and Attachment A, are supplements to Appendix S of the Racing Rules of Sailing(page 136 RRS 2017-2020).

NOTICES TO COMPETITORS (SI2)

SSI 1The race office is located in the MBSC Clubhouse. Notices to competitors will be placed on the official notice board in the sailors room on level 2 of the MBSC clubhouse.

SIGNALS MADE ASHORE (SI4)

SSI 2Signals ashore will be displayed on the MBSC flagstaff.

SSI 3A boat shall not leave the shore until code flag D is displayed.

SSI 4The warning signal shall be made not less than 30 minutes after flag D is displayed or not before the scheduled time, whichever is the later.

SSI 5SCHEDULE OF COURSES AND START TIMES (SI 5 & 6)

SSI 8If more than three (3) races have been sailed, then the last race of the series will be a MEDAL RACE. This will be signalled by the Race Committee vessel by flying a white flag with the letter M. This will be displayed with one sound at least five minutes before a warning signal is made.

COURSES (SI 7)

SSI 9The courses to be sailed, the order in which the marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left are shown in Attachment A

MARKS (SI 8)

SSI 10The description of the marks is below each course diagram.

THE START (SI 9)

SSI11The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the race committee vessel, and the course side of the starting mark, or if the port end starting mark is a vessel, the staff on it displaying an orange flag. This changes SI 9.2.

SSI12To alert boats that a race or sequence of races will begin soon, the orange starting line flag will be displayed with one sound at least five minutes before a warning signal is made.

SSI 13A boat starting later than four minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes RRS A4.1 and RRS A5.

THE FINISH (SI 11)

SSI 14The finishing line will be between a staff displaying a blue flag on the race committee vessel and the course side of the finishing mark.

There is no prescribed time limit for the first boat to pass mark 1.

PENALTY SYSTEM

SSI 15For the 29er, rule 44.1, Taking a Penalty, is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by a One-Turn Penalty.

SSI 16Appendix P is changed by SSI 15and SSI 17

SSI 17RRS P2.2 and P2.3 are deleted and RRS P2.1 is amended to “When a boat is penalised under RRS P2.1 her penalty shall be a Two-Turns Penalty under RRS 44.2. If she fails to take itshe shall be disqualified without a hearing.”

SSI 18Breaches of Class Rules and Safety Regulations may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification.

CHECK OUT AND CHECK IN

SSI 23 19 Boats shall comply with the following check out and check in procedure: Sign on and off sheets are to be signed by all sailors each day, prior to leaving the beach, and immediately after returning to the beach at the end of racing.

SUPPORT VESSELS

SSI 2420Except when participating in rescue operations, coaches, parents and other support personnel shall stay outside areas where boats are racing from the time of the preparatory signal for the first fleet to start until all boats have finished or retired or the Race Committee signals a postponement or an abandonment (but not a general recall) of all fleets.

SSI 2521When a Race Committee or Protest Committee member indicates a support vessel to move further from the course area, the mentioned vessel shall do so immediately.

SSI 23 Breaches of SSI 14, SSI 25, SSI 26, Class Rules and Safety Regulations may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification.

And then SSI 23, 24 and 25 get renumbered to 24, 25 and 26 respectively.
