Lou Fabrizio Short Biography
Lou Fabrizio was named Director of Accountability Services with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) in August 1996. In this capacity, he oversaw the state’s accountability program, the statewide testing program and the implementation of the accountability and assessment requirements for the No Child Left Behind Act. In October of 2008, he was named Director of Accountability Policy & Communications and serves as a primary contact for North Carolina's assessment and accountability program which involves monthly interactions with the NC State Board of Education, presentations before select committees of the NC General Assembly, interviews with the media and presentations at regional, state and national education conferences.
Dr. Fabrizio also is a long-standing member on the national Task Force on Assessment and the Assessment Subcommittee of the Council of Chief State School Officers' (CCSSO) Education Information Management Advisory Consortium. He also serves on CCSSO’s Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Reauthorization Task Force. In October 2007, Dr. Fabrizio was appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) which sets policies for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). He currently serves as the Chair of the Committee on Standards, Design and Methodology and is a member of the NAGB Executive Committee.
He previously has served on other national committees including the Technical Advisory Committee for the Voluntary National Test, a committee for the National Academy of Sciences that addressed district-level reporting of the NAEP, and the NAEP 2001 Mathematics Assessment Framework Steering Committee.
He received his B.S. in Physics from Georgetown University, and both his M.S. in Educational Administration and Supervision, and Ph.D. in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
