School Improvement Team

Purpose:

The purpose of the School Improvement Team (SIT) is to drive the continual raising of standards through teaching, learning, monitoring, evaluation and the School Improvement Plan.

Membership:

The SIT will comprise of at least four governors plus the Executive Headteacher (or at least one member of the Senior Leadership Team).

The SIT may invite non-voting members as appropriate.

The Chair of SIT will be appointed at a meeting of the full Governing Body on an annual basis or as necessary.

Should the Chair be absent, members of the Committee will elect an acting Chairperson.

Quorum:

The quorum is three governors who are members of the Committee of which one must be the Executive Headteacher or three governors plus at least one member of the Senior Leadership Team

Clerk:

The Full Governing Body Clerk will act as Clerk to the Committee.

Meetings:

The Committee shall meet as necessary but, not less than once per half term.

An agenda and copies of the previous Committee meeting minutes will be circulated, by the Clerk, at least 7 days before each Committee meeting date.

Each meeting of the Committee will be minuted with the minutes circulated to/made available to all members of the Governing Body prior to the next full Governing Body Meeting.

At every full Governing Body Meeting the Chairperson of the Committee will give a report of all meetings of the School Improvement Team

The Governing Body delegates the following responsibilities to the School Improvement Team.

* To determine the school’s targets in relation to the key stages of assessment.

• To review and evaluate progress, at regular and agreed intervals, relating to the above targets using school assessment data and analysis, raise-on-line, governor visits, learning walks and governor ‘special responsibility’ monitoring etc.

• To oversee arrangements for individual governors to take a leading role in specific areas of provision, e.g. SEN, Literacy, Numeracy. To receive regular reports from them and advise the Governing Body.

• Monitor, evaluate, review and update all statutory and non-statutory Teaching and Learning/School Improvement Policies. See policy checklist.

• To ensure that the school provides a broad and balanced curriculum and to advise the Governing Body on all matters relating to the National Curriculum.

• To advise the Governing Body on matters relating to the preparation for an Ofsted inspection and Action Plan following an Ofsted Inspection.

• To monitor and evaluate the Key Issues of the School Improvement Plan and report to the Governing Body on impact, together with any recommendations.

• To make arrangements for the Governing Body to be represented at school improvement discussions with the Local Authority (LLP) and Diocese and for reports to be shared with the Governing Body.

• To ensure that the requirements of children with SEN (including those with disabilities and the gifted and talented) are met.

• To consider curricular issues which have implications for Finance and Staffing decisions and to make recommendations to the relevant committees or the Governing Body.

• To oversee arrangements for educational and governor visits to the school.

• To monitor pupil discipline and behaviour whilst encouraging the active participation of allinvolved (teachers, support staff, pupils, parents, carers and the wider community) in implementing the school’s behaviour policy.

• To ensure the SEF is up-to-date whilst developing the sections relevant to the School Improvement Team

• Ensuring that the School sends foundation stage profile results, Key Stage 1 tasks, tests and teacher assessments results to the LA (primary schools).

Review:

These Terms of Reference will be reviewed annually before the first Governing Body meeting of the Autumn Term at which time the Committee will recommend that they be adopted.
