A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF STELLA PATRICIA “PAT” WILLIS OF GRANITEVILLE WHO PASSED AWAY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2003, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened by the death of Mrs. Stella Patricia “Pat” Willis on Friday, February 28, 2003; and

Whereas, Mrs. Willis was born in Wilmington, N. C., but had lived in the Horse Creek/Midland Valley area for over twenty-two years. She was the wife of the late Tolson Willis and daughter of Catherine Reynolds Carlton of Wilmington, N.C. and the late Emerson Reynolds; and

Whereas, Mrs. Willis held a bachelor's degree and a master's degree and taught at Los Angeles City College and Newberry College. She also chaired the general education division at Aiken Technical College; and

Whereas, Mrs. Willis was the editor of the North Augusta Post newspaper and a reporter for the Edgefield Citizens News and the Augusta Chronicle. Most recently, she was the editor of The Villager Newspaper; and

Whereas, Mrs. Willis was a member of the Aiken County Tax Accommodations Committee and the Horse Creek Historical Society. She served on the board of directors of the Midland Valley Chamber, Chair of the Jane and Johnny Doe Christmas Fund Committee, Heritage Corridor Committee and the Quasquicentennial Commission of Aiken County; and

Whereas, Pat Willis was a dedicated newspaperwoman, a champion of worthy causes, and a tireless volunteer. She was respected by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed; and

Whereas, the Senate extends its sympathy to the family and many friends of Mrs. Stella Patricia “Pat” Willis. She is survived by her mother, Catherine Reynolds Carlton; her two brothers, Gene Reynolds of Lexington and Ronnie Reynolds of Carolina Beach, N.C.; three nieces; two nephews; and her very dear and close friend, Sharon McLaughlin of Graniteville. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Stella Patricia “Pat” Willis of Graniteville who passed away Friday, February 28, 2003, and extend deepest sympathy to her loving family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Stella Patricia “Pat” Willis of Graniteville.
