Congressional District 8 – Congressman Kevin Brady

200 River Pointe, Suite 304

Conroe, Texas77304

Dear Mr. Brady,

We are writing regarding the Proposed Multi-Family Government Housing located on 10500 Huffmeister, Cypress, TX. We are property tax payers and are opposed to this proposal. There are many reasons as to why we are absolutely opposed to this project. The schools in that area are already over crowded and with this rental property, there will not be any additional tax revenue from this property to build more schools. The government has already cut funding for the schools, so I do not foresee funding for additional schools. I have a 3 year old son and I am very concerned with the type of education that he will receive from a public school. The proposed property is a great location for commercial business to generate more tax dollars to help with our economy instead of OUR tax dollars being used for this project in which the TAXPAYERS oppose. We have also had flooding in the area and with that many apartment units, the flooding will only get worse. What will our representatives do to correct additional flooding that will be caused from this development? Transportation is also an issue, we do not have bus routes that come near the area, granted many renters will have vehicles but the ones that rely on public transportation will not benefit from the location.

This proposal will bring into our community persons occupying 248 (some single but most family) apartment units. These families rent for these apartments will be subsidized in some way by our tax dollars. Each of these families will be further burdening the already strained infrastructure of our community (roads, power, water, sewage/drainage) but they will be contributing far less in tax dollars toward solutions to these existing problems on a per family basis than my family and the majority of other families in the community. Additionally they will be sending their children to the schools in our community. These schools are already experiencing problems with overcrowding and funds for additional schools are apparently not available. These new families will not own property in our community therefore they will not be contributing to a solution to our school systems budget shortfalls with additional property tax revenue. They will be further burdening our school system without contributing to the improvements it needs presently.

To summarize, we believe that our elected government officials would serve their constituents far better by developing a plan to attract new MEDIAN-INCOME families to our community. Families that would contribute tax dollars toward the improvement of our community infrastructure and school system. The current proposed development would potentially benefit approximately 248 families that did not vote you into office. But it will do so at the expense of hundreds of families who did vote and will continue to vote for you or your opposition in coming elections. We require that you support your constituents in our desire to halt this proposed development or we will elect new officials that will support our desire to improve our community and not undermine it.

Sincerely,

Jody Goss and Kevin Goss
