Invitation to Apply to the
J. Frank Dobie National Honor Society
Congratulations! Based on your academic grade point average you are eligible to apply for membership in the J. Frank Dobie Chapter of the National Honor Society. Membership in the National Honor Society is based upon excellence in four areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. Each category is judged independently.
To be eligible for membership application a student must be in their junior or senior year of high school and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 4.5. In addition to these Scholarship requirements, standards in Leadership, Service, and Character must also be met. Leadership requirements include a demonstration of leadership in school as well as outside of school attested by faculty recommendation. Service requirements include involvement in community service projects throughout the student’s high school career. Character requirements include the demonstration of integrity, ethical behavior, and reliability in and out of school measured by discipline records and counseling recommendations.
After students become members of the National Honor Society, they are reviewed periodically by the Advisor and must maintain the high standards of the Society. Active members in the National Honor Society are required to maintain a cumulative 4.5 GPA or better and live up to the character, leadership, and service ideals of the National Honor Society. NHS members must also follow the J. Frank Dobie Extra Curricular Code of Conduct.
Students who are invited to apply to the National Honor Society are under no obligation
to submit an application. Although you are to be commended for maintaining a high scholastic average, please understand that membership is not guaranteed to anyone.
Applications can be picked up in room 243 on Monday, September 18 or downloaded from the NHS website on Friday, September 15. A link to the website can be found at dobie.pasadenaisd.org/NHS. If you have any questions regarding the Society or membership, please contact Ms. Payne(x4368) or Ms. Bland (x4422).
