Dear parent or guardian:
Your child will be doing a research project over a celebrity or historical figure. They are allowed to choose any celebrity or historical figure they choose, as long as they are appropriate and positive in nature (i.e. they cannot promote any negative stereotypes or the like.). We will have limited time to work on this during class, so please help ensure that your child is actively working on this at home. You may help them, but please remember that this project is meant to be a fun way for your child to learn responsibility, how to research, encourage them to read, use their creative talents, and foster independence.
This project will count as 2 grades. They will be as follows:
- Your child will need to write a mini biography over their celebrity or historical figure. They will need to include the beginning of their life until the present (or end), as well as key information about their person (i.e. Why are they famous? What awards have they won? What type of education have (did) they receive? Etc.). The biography needs to be hand written. This serves two purposes: First, to work on their hand writing skills. Second, to continue to work on correct punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and sentence structure.
- Display. Your child will need to have a display that goes with their research. This can include, but is not limited to the following. (BE CREATIVE!!)
- A scrapbook
- Mock magazine
- Diary (as if they were that person)
- Mock newspaper
- Poster board
- PowerPoint
- Video
- Trifold board
- The display must be neat, decorated, and attractive to look at. It must include appropriate photos related to the celebrity or historical figure. They must include a caption to explain what is happening within the photo. Any other text features can be added that is relevant (timeline, graph, table of contents, etc.) to the display that you use.
This project will be due by March 22, by the end of the day. No exceptions!! For every day that it is turned in late, it is 10 points off each day. If your child does not turn in any part, it will be a zero in the gradebook, which unfortunately will result in failure for that 9 weeks. So please make sure that ALL parts of your child’s project are ready to be turned in before or by March 22.
Remember: Your child needs to be creative, which doesn’t mean spending tons of money. Please feel free to use glitter, paints, markers, composition notebooks, etc. that you have at home. Once again, it’s about being creative!
If you have any questions, please let me know. You can email me at .
Please sign the bottom portion of this letter, and return it to me. You may keep the above portion for your reference.
Ms. Williams
you
