APPOINTMENTS TO OUTSIDE BODIES
REPORT OF THE SECRETARY TO THE AUTHORITY
1.0 The Authority is asked to appoint Members to outside bodies, to serve for the forthcoming year. A list of outside bodies, together with the names of representatives who served for 2008/09, is set out below:-
Local Government Yorkshire and Humber – Chairman of the Authority.
Substitute: Vice-Chairman of the Authority.
Local Government Yorkshire and Humber Employers’ Committee
- Chairman of the Authority.
- Substitute: Vice-Chairman of the Authority.
Local Government Association:-
· Fire Service Forum * - Chairman
* The Liberal Democrat Group on the LGA Fire Service Forum advised that it wished to nominate County Councillor Caroline Seymour for appointment to one of its ‘top up’ seats on that Forum. NYFRA, on 10 December 2008, endorsed that nomination. Therefore, NYFRA will pay County Councillor Caroline Seymour’s expenses for attendance at meetings of the LGA Fire Service Forum.

County Councillor Eric Broadbent
· Rural Commission - County Councillor Caroline Seymour and

2.0 The Authority’s Steering Group, on 12 June 2009, discussed the appointment of Members to serve, from 24 June 2009, as Named Substitutes for City Councillor Ken King on the Yorkshire and Humberside Fire Control Limited Board of Directors (listed above). It was felt important that the Named Substitutes should be from the same Constituent Council as the Member. Steering Group therefore agreed to submit the recommendation at (a) below to the Authority for formal approval.
3.0 / RECOMMENDATIONS(a) That the following Members be appointed as Named Substitutes for City Councillor Ken King on the Yorkshire and Humberside Fire Control Limited Board of Directors, to serve until the meeting of the Authority to be held during June 2010:-
(i) City Councillor Keith Aspden
(ii) City Councillor Christina Funnell
(b) That Members be appointed to the remaining outside body positions listed in this report, to serve until the meeting of the Authority to be held during June 2010.
