MANDATORY UNIFORM POLICY
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
THE UNIFORM POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY
ENFORCED FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR.
In order to assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment, all Central High School students will wear the mandated school uniform at all times during the school day. Uniforms must be worn so that students can be identified as belonging to the Central High School Family. All 9th grade students must be in full uniform beginning September 5, 2017. ALL students must be in full uniform beginning September 6, 2017.
The following mandatory uniform policy for all students was adopted by the Central High School PTSA effective August 2006, and will continue this school year. The decision was based on the following advantages and benefits of school uniforms:
· To assist with a safe and orderly environment
· Creates a sense of community and school spirit.
· Dramatically reduces the cost of school wardrobes.
· Instills students with discipline.
· Helps parents and students resist peer pressure.
· Helps students concentrate on school work.
· Helps parents/guardians and students enjoy hassle-free decisions on what
to wear.
The following items are acceptable under the Central High School Mandatory Dress Code:
Shirts: Collared polo style or collared button down shirt (short or long sleeve):
· Navy blue / Light blue/White
Bottoms: Solid khaki pants. Pants must have belt loops and be appropriately sized to
eliminate bagging or sagging. Pants are to be worn at the natural waistline and be
no longer than the heel of the shoe:
· Khaki color only
Shorts: Solid khaki shorts. Shorts must be longer than the middle finger with hands down
by the side.
· Khaki color only
Skirts: Solid khaki skirts. Skirts must be longer than the middle finger with hands down
by the side:
· Khaki color only
Dresses: Jumpers that are totally unadorned and longer than the finger with hands down
by the side. Dresses are worn in:
· Khaki color only
Belts: Solid brown or black
Tights: Solid color tights in:
· Black, Navy blue, or White
Shoes: Female and male students must wear fully enclosed shoes and/or boots:
· Students cannot wear open-toe sandals; heels or boots cannot be more than two inches in height
Head Coverings: As stated in the PGCPS System-Wide Dress Code for Students, “Headdresses may be worn for religious or health reasons ONLY.” Documentation must be submitted from a religious official and/or medical provider on their official letterhead to the grade-level administrator.
New Students: Students who are new to CHS will be given a 3-day grace period in order to comply with the uniform policy. They will be issued a pass from their administrator, and it must be in their possession at all times.
Financial Hardship: Parents or guardians who are unable to purchase mandatory uniforms, due to financial hardship, must submit a letter of request to their grade level administrator. Upon review, and conference with the parent/guardian, students may receive clean, recycled uniforms.
Medical Reasons: All medical reasons for non-compliance with the mandatory uniform policy require documentation by a physician.
Athletes: Members of athletic teams may wear their uniform or jersey/top, with their uniform bottoms, on GAME DAYS ONLY - during the season of their sport.
Wednesday: Wednesday’s are Program Celebration Days!! If a student is enrolled in a specific program, (AVID, IB, French Immersion, Career Academies, ESOL, Mentoring Group, etc.), they may wear a shirt that showcases the Program in which they participate.
Friday: Friday’s are Central Pride Days!! All Staff and Students can wear Central attire or Class shirts to show school pride!
The following styles and fabrics are NOT permitted:
· Brown, army green, or black bottoms. All bottoms MUST be KHAKI.
· Visible labels or logos on any article of clothing
· Stretch, tight, or form-fitting clothing
· Baggy slacks
· Jeans
· Hooded clothing
· Cropped tops
· Slippers, flip-flops, mules, open-toe shoes
· Ornamental belts
· Sweatpants, regardless of the material
· Cutoffs/Khaki pants with holes and/or rips
· Rolled-up pants
· Pants tucked in boots
· White tanks
· Adorned shirts
· Torn tops
