From the Principal’s desk: I wish to thank the many parents who showed our teachers their appreciation with “big at heart” gifts and words of praise this past week. It is a well-known factor that teachers impact children’s lives; Helms teachers strive to positively impact their children’s lives each day. I also thank you everyone who participated in our daily teacher appreciation themes and supported the 4th Grade Teacher Gifts Fundraiser.
This week I invite parents to the Helms State of the School Parent Information Meeting on Wednesday, May 16th, 5:15 – 6:30 PM. As opening event, there will be a Meet the Teacher which parents may meet and greet the new 2012 – 2013 teachers from 5:15 – 5:45 PM. Then, from 5:45 – 6:30 PM, I will host a discussion on the changes in staffing for next year. Immediately after these activities, our After School Program Fine Arts Showcase will take place starting promptly at 6:30 PM. I look forward to having all our families join us.

This Friday, May 14th, is the deadline to turn in your payment or un-purchased Spring Pictures. If you have not done so, please send your payment no later than this Friday. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please keep only the photos you are purchasing and return the remaining pictures, along with the payment for your purchase, to your child’s teacher no later than this due date.
Helms’ Summer School Programs, due to campus construction, will be held at Field Elementary. This summer Helms will be offering the following summer programs:
1)Promotion Standards and ReadingProgram - thisis a free HISD program for students thatare below grade level based on district established criteria. Studentsthat are eligible will receive a registration form this week to take home for parent approval. These forms must be returned by the indicated due date, otherwise, the space will be given to another student in need of this program.
2)Pre-K and Kindergarten English Language Learner Summer School - this is a free HISD program for second language learners of English in Pre-K and Kinder. Eligible studentswill receive a registration form this week to take home for parent approval. These forms must be returned by the indicated due date, otherwise, the space will be given to another student in need of this program.
3)Spanish Language Enrichment Program - this is a Helms Tuition-basedprogram open to students 4 years old to 5th Grade. This year’s theme: Migration. Students will be fascinated to learn all about MIGRATION; from butterflies to bats; turtles to birds; and even people migration. A different theme for five weeks has been planned. Parents looking for a fun, science basedSpanish program that enables their child to continue building his/her Spanish language acquisition during the summer will absolutely LOVE this Spanish Program. - Thank you very much to all the parents who donated fabulous desserts & soft drinks for the PTA Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon last Friday! Theentire Helms staff expressed their enjoyment of this small token of our appreciation. A special thank you to Mr. Tom Blain for so generously donating all the supplies AND cooking the main course! It was amazingly delicious!
