GAINING A “PRIVATE PILOT’S LICENCE” (PPL) – WHAT IS INVOLVED
Informal briefing(taster) with the Civil Service Flying Club (CSFC)
To be held at Rochester airfield Kent
- TARGET AUDIENCE
- Aviation enthusiasts who are seriously interested in learning to fly.
- Those who live within reach of Rochester airfield, Kent (CSFC base). The briefing is specific to the CSFC arrangements for learning to fly(at Rochester).
- Those who have an interest in learning to fly but for whatever reason(s) have never explored the possibilities, or thought it was out of their reach.
- AIMS
- Explain what is involved in gaining a PPL – costs, time, medical requirements, etc
- Illustrate in a practical waythe sort of flyingthat members of the CSFC can enjoy when they have gained their Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL)
- LIMITATIONS
- The event is a “taster” of what is involved in learning to fly. As such the main activity is the presentation of information and not any kind of special-occasion treat/reward.
- If an attendee wishes to bring a non participating guest, it should be noted that we will have limited time and facilities to properly look after such guests. We will of course try to make them feel as welcome as possible,but for much of the time they will be separate from those actually taking part.
- OUTLINE
- Only 2 delegates per session
- Approximately 2 – 3 hours total time
- DETAIL
- The content of the PPL syllabus will be outlined – including the topics tested via written exams and the structure of the flying training
- The medical requirements will be outlined
- The favourable costs and options in learning to fly via CSFC will be explained, as will the opportunities for cost-sharing on flights made after gaining the PPL
- The minimum requirements (costs and options) for keeping the PPL will be explained
- The preparation for a typical PPL flying sortie will be briefed
- Delegates will see some of the main facilities at Rochester airfield
- Weather permitting, the 2 delegates will take a short flight as passengers with a fully qualified pilotmember of CSFC. This is not a flying lesson, although you should gain an appreciation of what is involved in piloting a small/light aircraft.
- ADMINISTRATION
- There will be 4 sessions in a day starting at: 09.30; 10.00; 11.30; and 13.30
- Places are limited -2 per session- and will be allocated in the order received
