Parent Involvement Policy
School: Newell Elementary School
As part of Newell Elementary School’s Title 1 School-wide program, we encourage allparents to be involved in their child’s education. This policy outlines the parent involvement activities that are conducted during the school year.
- Parents will receive a copy of the Parent Involvement Policy (this document) which describes the ongoing activities that are held to inform and involve parents in their child’s education.
- Parents will receive a copy of the Parent-School Compact-this is an agreement between the home and school outlining everyone’s responsibility for supporting student learning.
- Monthly newsletters, suggestions on how to work with your child, lists of good books to read with your child as well as other information will be sent home periodically to provide opportunities to train parents to help their children succeed in school.
- Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for October 30, 2017. Teachers will be available to review your child’s progress and answer any questions you may have.
- The school will translate the documents that will be sent home to parents and will also have interpretation available when needed to facilitate the communication between staff and parents
- A communication folder is sent every day with the scholars in Kindergarten to strengthen communication among parents and the school.
- The student agenda is used as a daily communication tool between home and school.
- Newell Elementaryhostseveral mobile pantry nights in conjunction with Together We Feed for registered families. One pantry includes food and family games.
- We invite you to call the school to ask any questions you may have or to schedule a visit or meeting. It is our hope that your children will have a wonderful learning experience at Newell Elementary School.
- Parents are encouraged to participate in the School Leadership Team, Parent Teacher Association and other school activities.
- Parents are encouraged to register with the CMS volunteer system in order to participate in school activities, fieldtrips, classroom activities, etc.
- Newell will be sensitive to the cultural background of parents, students and the community in general and will provide a welcoming environment for all.
- A spring survey to assess parent needs, possible workshops, etc. will be given to parents to allow them to voice their feelings about the school and its services. We look forward to suggestions or recommendations from you that can help us improve our Title 1 program.
- The NEWELL ELEMENTARY PTA will host different events through the school year geared to increase parental involvement such as Muffins for Moms, Donuts for Dads, Father Daughter Dance, etc.

Kindergarten Meet the Teacher on September 1, 2017 at
Newell will hold:
A Title 1 annual parent meeting prior to October 27th in conjunction with the Curriculum Night.
This meeting will cover:
- Grade level academic learning objectives.
- School Title I status and school improvement initiatives.
- Student involvement in the reading program.
- The importance of homework, attendance, tardiness, and feelings about school.
- Opportunities to actively participate and have input into the School improvement and parent involvement initiatives we have as a Title I School.
- PTA elections and installation.
