COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will provide a basic knowledge of immunology and its significance to human disease.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Know the molecules, cells, and organs of the immune system
2. Learn the mechanisms involved and the processes that human body generates B and T cell responses.
3. Comprehend the immunologic processes involved in targeting pathogens, transplants, and cancer cells.
4. Understand the theory and mechanisms behind immune effectors and vaccine development.
3. Develop critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies
GRADING POLICY
Lecture Exams (60%):FourLecture Exams will each be worth 15% of the total grade. Exam questions (M/C and short answers) will be taken from lectures, case studies, and text.
Missed exams are scored as a zero. There are no make-up exams unless you have a documented emergency.
Classroom quizzes, discussion, and Presentation(40%): This is an interactive, case- and team- based class.As such, students are expected to read the assigned material before the scheduled date, participate in class discussion, and take the individual and team quizzes.
Teammate evaluation: You will also have two quiz grades that are dependent on your performance in your group.These mid- and end- semester evaluation grades will be given by other members of your group on your performance and attendance (grades for these two quizzes CANNOT be dropped and are part of the group participation score).
If you miss a quiz for any reason, including illness and excused travel absence, that quiz will be counted as one of the dropped scores (I will drop 2 low quiz scores). There will be NO make-up quiz or exam
No additional work for extra credit will be given at the end of the semester.
Letter grades will be assigned according to the following scale:A = 90-100C = 70-79
B = 80-89D = 60-69
GENERAL
Students should log onto Blackboard (Bb) ASAP and carefully read all announcements. Bb and UTT student e-mailshould be checkedregularly for new announcements or messages.

Grade Replacement/Forgiveness
If you are repeating this course for a grade replacement, you must file an intent to receive grade forgiveness with the registrar by the 12th day of class. Failure to do so will result in both the original and repeated grade being used to calculate your overall grade point average. Undergraduates will receive grade forgiveness (grade replacement) for only three course repeats; graduates, for two course repeats during his/her career at UT Tyler.
Student Absence for University-Sponsored Events and Activities
If you intend to be absent for a university-sponsored event or activity, you (or the event sponsor) must notify the instructor at least two weeks prior to the date of the planned absence. At that time the instructor will set a date and time when make-up assignments will be completed.

The electronic transmission of grades (e.g., via e-mail) risks violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; grades will not be transmitted electronically.
Emergency Exits and Evacuation
Everyone is required to exit the building when a fire alarm goes off. Follow your instructor’s directions regarding the appropriate exit. If you require assistance during an evacuation, inform your instructor in the first week of class. Do Not re-enter the building unless given permission by University Police, Fire department, or Fire Prevention Services.
