Katie Hewison Junior Chorley Duathlon
Saturday 9th May 2015
AstleyPark, Chorley.
The 2nd Chorley Schools Duathlon is expected to see over 250 young people run and/or cycle in Astley Park on Saturday 9th May. The event is organised by Chorley Athletic & Triathlon Club, in association with Chorley Schools Partnership and Chorley Council. The Duathlon is registered and insured by School Games and Triathlon England.
There are two parts to the day, with all Chorley school athletes earning points for their school, whether they compete as an individual or as part of a team.
In the Team Event, 2 or 3 athletes will race in year groups. One athlete will complete the run, tag the cyclist, who will hand over to a runner to complete the course. Each race will be manually timed. If there is more than one wave in an age category, the times will be considered across each wave with the fastest in each age group being classed the winner. Team entries are free, and must be registered with Chorley SSP by Friday 17th April. A maximum of 4 teams per category are allowed from each school. There is a maximum of 50 teams per age category, so please register your teams early to avoid disappointment.
Those who feel confident are encouraged to enter as Individuals and complete the event by themselves. A young person cannot compete as an individual and in a team. There are no restrictions on the number of individuals from each school who can compete. Choosing their age category, under Triathlon England rules, will earn the individual double points for their school. For those who feel the distances in their age category are too much, the Sprint and Supersprint are ideal to give individuals the chance to challenge themselves to complete a full Duathlon. Extra 5 points are given to individuals competing in these categories, on top of finishing place points. Individual races will be chip timed, for accuracy, with split times available for each section of the course. The individual races will also be part of the North West Junior Triathlon Series. Individual entries cost £6, and must be registered using the online entry system. Chorley schools have priority entry until the end of February. Individual entries are restricted to 200. Final entries will be 30th April, unless full capacity has been reached before then.
The top 15 scores for each school will be counted in the Chorley Schools Duathlon Championship. These will be made up of all teams, individuals and sprint events e.g 6 teams, 4 Supersprint individuals & 5 Tristar category athletes, are the highest scoring finishers for the school out of 8 teams, 6 Supersprint and 6 Tristar athletes who entered.
Any type of bike can be used for this event. It must be safe and road worthy, and helmets must be worn. No helmet no race. There are a few bikes and helmets available to borrow, which must be ordered on the entry form.
