DECEMBER NEWS 2012
This year has flown past and December is already upon us. Coming up is all the news, since June 2012:
WELCOME to our NEW MEMBERS
Christel du Toit, Robert Herreveld, Mike Edwards, Francois Coetzee, Martini Coetzee, Louis Conradie, Dion Visagie, Wim Potgieter, Hester Roodt, Quincy Tlhakuli, Kim ByoungJu, Johan van Niekerk. We wish you all a happy, enjoyable membership with the club.
PAST EVENTS
9TH June – We celebrated our achievements at Cape Town Nationals with a supper at Ocean Basket Menlyn. June/July – World Masters champs in Riccione. Well done to David, Cheryl Arbuthnot, Selwyn Sundolwitz and Bronwyn Phillips who took part under the Coelacanths flag. 23rd June – We all had a very enjoyable day once again at our Winter Get-to-gether Braai atRietvlei Dam. There is nothing like good fun, good company and a fire to warm ones soul. 11th August - Afabulous donation of R2,700 was collected and handed over to Irene Homes for the mentally disabled. We also handed over approximately, 30 men’s and women’s costumes. They were thrilled and so very grateful. Thank you, to all those who participated in our Tshwane Winter Challenge, and who contributed towardssuch a worthy cause. 4th September – We decided to have a Pizza Evening as an opener for the season, and most important of all, we invited our special member, Herman van der Westhuizen to come and tell us all about his amazing achievement, in swimming the English Channel, from Dover to CAP Blanc, 42,4Ks, in 11.25 hours. Derek handed over a plaque to him, and he entertained us with all his stories and experiences etc.
6th October – Our 12th Coelacanth 1500 Swim was one of the best so far! It was very well supported. All masters, including our visiting clubs, were helping out with timekeeping etc.
There was lots of encouragement to new members. It was so nice to see our masters friends again, and to be back in the water at Hillcrest, in the sun.
20th October – Sun City Swim!! They had a record amount of entries this year. We have to congratulate the organizers for a superbly well run event. We were asked to help with the marking, drinks and results. About 25 members offered and we had a great day on the grass marking all ages. The club wasreimbursed for our efforts, which will go towards kit. We will definitely help again next year if needed.
3rd November – 1st Leg of the Inter-Regional between Tshwane and Gauteng. It was a gorgeous sunny day, great swimming, and afterwards we had abraai on the lawn. Thank you ladies who supplied all the delicious salads. Derek read out the results. Coelacanths leading as a club, Tshwane as a region, but we have to look out for Gauteng, they were not far behind us. We need your support, at the 2nd Leg, to be held at Ellis Park 2nd March 2013, in order to win back that shield for Tshwane.

We have a new design costume which is available, thanks to Kim Foster and Sabine Verryn for organising for the club. Samples will be at the Xmas Party and at club night on Tuesday for trying on and ordering. More news shortly about Coelacanths kit for Port Elizabeth!

The entry form for Nationals has been sent out to you all, please it must be filled in neatly and sent back to the club asap.Please indicate if you are available for relays, very important. The cut-off date is 31st January, 2013. You may hand it in at the Xmas Party or fax to 0865483092 or Email . This is going to be a great event so start saving and organizing your accommodation and flights.
