Description
The student award is a special distinction that allows graduating students participating in La Casa Cultural Latina’s congratulatory ceremony to recognize three students from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus who have excelled in academics, contributed to the community on or off campus, or demonstrated outstanding student leadership.
Who is eligible to nominate students?
Any faculty or staff member or registered University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign student may nominate a student.
Who is eligible to receive the awards?
Any student who has graduated or will graduate within the period between December ‘15 to December ‘17 is eligible for nomination.*
Award Criteria
Academic Award: Explain how the student has used his/her academic studies to enrich his/her life. How has the student contributed to the academic success of others? Required minimum GPA 3.0.
Community Service Award: Explain how the student has demonstrated a sustained commitment to community service on or off campus. Provide specific examples of the communities the student has worked with and the kinds of projects undertaken.
Student Leadership Award: Explain in what ways the student has served as a leader for the Latina/o student community. What motivated the student to be a leader?
Selection Process
The La Casa Professional staff will carefully select the recipient of this award. The student award is granted based on the reasons given within the essay, which distinguish the nominee. The winners will be announced at the La Casa Cultural Latina’s Congratulatory Ceremony on May 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm in the Festival Theatre of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
