NJCEIA Student of the Year Awards 2014

Application Instructions

Eligibility

  • Student(s) can self-nominate or be nominated by a professional from their institution’s career or internship/co-op office.
  • Student(s) who self-nominate should submit their application to their institution’s career or internship/co-op office to obtain endorsement by a career or internship/co-op office professional staff member or by a member of NJCEIA.
  • Student(s) must be currently enrolled (either full-time or part-time) at a two or four-year degree-granting institution.
  • Student(s) must have completed one co-op/internship term by May 2014; internship/coop must be completed between June 2013and May 2014.

Award

  • NJCEIA sponsors a search for outstanding co-op/internship students each academic year. A cash award of $250will be presented to winners of two-year and four-year degree institutions.
  • The award categories are as follows: Technical 4-year, Non-technical (business & liberal arts) 4-year; and Technical 2-year and Non-technical 2-year.
  • We encourage all NJCEIA members to nominate candidates or encourage students to self-nominate. Please note that more than one student from a college or university may participate.

Application Packet includes the following:

  • Student Application form
  • Student Statement – we encourage you to enclose a picture of yourself at the internship site if possible
  • Completion of the college Information section of the application including signature of college representative endorsing student for the award

Criteria for Selection

  • Student’s quality and quantity of work, and achievements on the job
  • Student’s initiative and/or original work
  • Student’s overall impact and contributions to the employer

Student Statement

A 1-2 page summary explaining and supporting the student’s eligibility with the following sub-headings and explanations (1000 words or less):

  • Introduction – where and when the internship/co-op took place; brief description of the site sponsor
  • Projects – what projects and assignments did the student complete independently and/or in a team-oriented setting; what significant accomplishments were made on the job and to the employer
  • Learning- what new skills and abilities did the student attain
  • Future plans-how has the experience enhanced the student’s career development and goals

Attach the statement to the student application form and return both to the college’s career or co-op/internshipoffice

by 4 pm, May8, 2014.

Additional Materials (optional)

You may choose to include an employer endorsement letter or samples of your work from your internship, for example a writing sample or blog entry, etc. These additional materials are not required as part of the application process.

Process

  • All completed sets of entries MUST be submitted to the VP of Awards & Recognitionno later than May 12, 2014 by the college’s career or co-op/internship representative. Late entries and incomplete entries will be disqualified.

  • Judging will be completed by a committee of career/co-op professionalsin late May 2014 and winners will be

notified in late June 2014.

  • The search committee may contact applicants co-op/internship supervisors if additional information is required
  • Two student winners (technical and non-technical)will be selected from a two-year institution and four-year institution.
