2016 NOMINATION RULES
(Northern California Chapter Award)
APWA Northern California Chapter is proud to recognize the efforts of management and staff in the public and private sector who exemplify the best in public works practices. The Chapter Staff Appreciation Awards Committee will select the top nominee in each award category (staff and manager levels) for recognition at the Chapter level. The manager level recipients as selected by the NorCal Chapter will be advanced to National and be considered for the National Professional Manager of the Year (for the category in which the candidate was nominated).
Forms are due by midnight July 12, 2016
Eligibility
Members of the APWA NorCal Board of Directors and Committee members are not eligible during the time they serve on the Board. The rules for eligibility include:
Chapter Level Awards -- Anyone (staff or manager) can be nominated for Chapter level awards. Nomination is not limited to only APWA members.
National Level “Professional Manager of the Year” Award Consideration -- A manager candidate must be a member of APWA in order for the candidate’s name to be considered for the National Professional Manager of the Year. (Should the public Agency or private sector firm hold corporate membership, the individual must be a member and have a APWA National ID number for nominations to be considered at a National level.)
Candidates may be employed in either the public or private sector. However, his/her career must be in public works in the area of their selected category as identified on the nomination form.
Candidates must have made significant contributions in their public works field.
Candidates require a minimum of 10 years of qualifying experience and must manage or have made significant contributions in the fields of public works and administrative management including a minimum of 1 year of qualifying experience in the award category.
Self-nomination is not accepted.
Criteria
The Criteria to be used in the selection process include:
Profession: Makes significant contributions to the advancement of the area of his/her selected category.
Leadership: Demonstrates outstanding leadership and vision evidenced by employing progressive management techniques in the area of his/her selected category.
Innovation: Develops or employs new and innovative ideas and technology in advancing the effectiveness of his/her selected category.
Agency Service: Implements effective methods to optimize fiscal management within his/her selected category.
Customer Service: Promotes of a high degree of satisfaction among customers and other stakeholders.
Community Service: Promotes the public works mission in the community, agency or customers served.
Sustainability: Supports the advancement of sustainable contributions in public works.
