Appendix 3 Descriptive and exploratory statistics for recreational preferences (N = 496). Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to reduce the size of the dataset by identifying relationships between items, and extracting latent factors (determined by eigen values and factor loadings as cut-off criteria, and then calculated as factor scores) underlying the items and explaining a percentage of the variance in the data. Reliability tests ascertained that the factor scores derived from EFA had internal consistency (represented by the Cronbach’s α value).
