EMD Serono, Inc. is aware of the growing need for support for medical education. We understand that continuing medical education is the foundation for health care providers to provide quality, effective and safe health care to their patients. As part of our commitment to meeting unmet needs, EMD Serono supports activities that improve core competencies of healthcare professionals in training so that they may excel in the medical community and provide quality, effective and safe health care to patients.

To that end, EMD Serono has established a Grant Program designed to support the medical education of healthcare professionals, providers and patients in areas of interest to EMD Serono.

Our Commitment to Independence in Medical Education

In awarding a grant, EMD Serono will make no grant as a reward or in exchange for prescribing or purchasing EMD Serono products or to induce the prescription or purchase of EMD Serono products in the future. Grant recipients are not expected or obliged to prescribe, purchase or recommend an EMD Serono product.

To maintain the independence of medical education programs which it funds, EMD Serono will have no control over any of the following decisions: (1) identification of specific CME needs as they relate to development of an educational program, (2) determination of the educational objectives that relate to development of a program, (3) selection and presentation of the content of a program, (4) selection of all persons and organizations that will be in a position to control the content of the program, (5) selection of educational methods and (6) selection of methods of evaluation of the program.

Purpose and Scope of this Request for Proposals

The purpose of the Request for Proposals is to make CME providers and other qualified organizations aware that EMD Serono is interested in receiving grant applications through its Grant Program for the following program:

· The general topic of this program would be immune therapies as a novel approach to the treatment of NSCLC to be held as an independently supported symposium at the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting to be held in Chicago, IL from June 3-7, 2011.

How to Respond to this Request for Proposals

The only way to respond to this Request for Proposals is to log on to EMD Serono’s Grant Management website, www.grants.emdserono.com, and submit a grant application. No off-line hard copy submissions will be accepted.

The first thing an organization must do on the Grant Management website is create a user account (i.e. register). The website will ask: “Are you a registered EMD Serono Grants Application user?” If your organization has not yet registered, click on “register.” After registering, you can fill out the online grant application form. There are easy-to-follow instructions and help options available. In addition, our EMD Serono Medical Education Grant Coordinator is available by phone (1-800-283-8088, ask for the Medical Education Grant Coordinator) or email () to answer any questions about how to use the website or submit a grant application.

Deadline for Submission of Grant Application

The deadline for submitting a grant application in connection with this Request for Proposals is October 1, 2010.

Completing the Grant Application on the Grant Management Website

The information below will help you fill out the particular sections of the online grant application.

IMPORTANT: You must fill out a “Supplemental Information Form” and upload it to your grant application. The online system will prompt you when to do the uploading. Grant applications which do not have the Supplemental Information Form uploaded will be considered incomplete and not reviewed.

1. “General Information” Section of the Grant Application

Complete all information requested under the “General Information” section.

2. “Program Overview” Section of the Grant Application

Complete all information requested under the “Program Overview” section. This section relates to the program that your organization is proposing in response to this Request for Proposals. Below is specific guidance on certain fields in this section.

· Program Title: In the general area of immune therapies as a novel approach to the treatment of NSCLC

· Requested Amount/Total Funding Needed For Program: EMD Serono will evaluate grant applications based on the assumption that EMD Serono will provide all the necessary funding for the program and that additional financial support from third parties will not be sought. The “Requested Amount” and “Total Funding Needed for Program” should be equal.

· Event Start and End Dates: Propose potential dates for the start and end of the program, taking into account necessary planning time.

· Total Credit Hours and Number of Attendees: information should be based on good faith estimates.

3. “Program Details” Section of the Grant Application

Complete all information requested under the “Program Details” section.

4. “Accreditation” Section of the Grant Application

Complete all information requests under the “Accreditation” section.

5. “Program Implementation” Section of the Grant Application

Complete all information requests under the “Program Implementation” section.

6. “Program Budget” Section of the Grant Application

The grant application automatically prompts you to upload a more detailed budget document when the grant request is more than $15,000. Therefore, you will need to complete the budget section of the grant application and attach a more detailed, total program budget in the “Budget Form.”

IMPORTANT: Grant applications which do not have the “Budget Form” uploaded will be considered incomplete and not reviewed.

Note: After the program, your organization will be asked to provide a line-item accounting of how the grant money was spent. Any funds not accounted for must be refunded to EMD Serono.

Terms, Conditions and Disclaimers

1. The purpose of the Request for Proposals is to make CME providers and other qualified organizations aware that EMD Serono is interested in receiving grant applications through its Grant Program for an independently supported symposium at ASCO, 2011. It is not an offer to contract. Only the execution of a Grant Agreement by the CME provider/organization and EMD Serono will obligate EMD Serono and the provider/organization in accordance with the terms and conditions contained in the Grant Agreement. EMD Serono’s Standard Form of Grant Agreement is posted on the Grant Management website.

2. Per EMD Serono’s medical education grant policy, educational programs must be primarily dedicated, in both time and effort, to promoting objective scientific and educational activity and discussion.

3. Per EMD Serono’s medical education grant policy, individual professionals, physician group practices, physician-owned clinics, managed care organizations, and pharmacy benefit managers are not eligible to apply for accredited professional education grants.

4. All organizations must bear their own costs associated with responding to this Request for Proposals and submitting a grant application.

5. EMD Serono reserves the right to amend or terminate this Request for Proposals at any time and for any reason. EMD Serono reserves the right to not grant any of the grant applications submitted through the Grant Program.

6. EMD Serono reserves the right to verify all information provided by an organization in its grant application.
