Note: After completing each of the following sections, be sure to click the button, and wait until the screen re-appears.

Set Up Page

  1. Open your Internet browser and click in the address bar.
  2. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and then press enter.
  3. The default password for a Linksys router is admin.
  4. The Setup page should look something like this:
  5. Enter a name for your router in the Router Name field:
  6. Next you will want to change the Local IP address section.
  7. In the third address number you will want to change the number to be between 2 and 254, but not 1.
    Write this number down as it will become the number that replaces 192.168.1.1, used to connect to your router's web interface.

Wireless Page

  1. Click on the Wireless Tab on the top black bar.
  2. In the Wireless Network Name field type in a unique name for your router:
  3. In the Wireless Channel field you can choose any channel, we recommend using any channel above 6 or 7. The lower the channel, the less the range, however the higher the channel the more interference you will be exposed to.
  4. Next click on the Wireless Security Tab. Then choose a security mode of WPA Pre-Shared Key, below choose a password to type into the shared key field. Pick a password that is easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. When you are finished click the button.
  5. Next, you will want to set up the MAC filter. What the MAC filter does is prevent computers from accessing your internet connection unless their MAC (hardware) address is in the table of allowed addresses. You can set this feature up by clicking on the Wireless Mac Filter section:
  1. After you click on the button to open the MAC Filter List, you should come to this window where you can enter the MAC addresses of the wireless adapters you want accessing your router:
  2. Once you are finished be sure to click the button.

Administration Page

  1. To make your router secure, you will want to change the standard password to a different one. To do this click on the Administration tab on the black bar.
  2. You should come to this page where you will be able to change the password:
  3. Once you pick a password be sure to click the button.

Status Page

  1. The router's status page can tell you important information about your router, and whether it is functioning properly. If you are experiencing problems with your router, a simple fix a lot of the time is to press the release button, and then the renew button:
  2. This will give the router a new IP address, if you notice on the picture above, your IP address should start with 128.193, if it doesn't your router may not be plugged in correctly, or your router might not be registered.
  3. When you are looking to register your router, you will want to look for the MAC address, which is in the upper section of the status page:
