NameLaw & Society Abstract Essay: 12 Angry Men

Directions and Goal: Answer the questions in essay format, preferably in a typed, double space document. Be sure to use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Please have the essay in proper format (introductory paragraph, three or more supporting paragraphs, and a closing paragraph). For example, address each focus question in its own paragraph, but make sure the paper flows with thoughtful continuity as you present your argument.

Task: Evaluate how juries serve as a vital part within our American justice system. Recall that their verdicts or decisions have a direct impact on the life of the defendant. You may also use information from “Twelve Angry Men,” to assist you in your analyzation and clarity of argument. Consider the following “focus” questions:

Focus One: Why is it important for those serving on a jury to take so much care in rendering a decision?

Focus Two: How does a person’s emotions and personal experiences play a role in making a jury decision?

Focus Three: In your opinion, would it be justified for jurors to agree on a verdict simply to finish their task and return home or to work faster?
