May 2- Weaving the Environment into 3-Dimensional Learning. Time: 6:00-8:00pm.
Location: HSCI-382 / Weaving the Environment into 3-Dimensional Learning. Come experience a 5E lesson sequence that supports NGSS and incorporates California's Environmental Principles and Concepts, which are now part of the new Science Framework. The presenters will lead us in a series of activities where we explore decomposers and scavengers using resources from the Education and the Environment Initiative. / Visit and click on the RSVP button

Elementary Science Learning Academy
June 26 – July 7, 2017
8:30-4:30 @ CSULB / Join elementary educators for two weeks of a summer institute where you’ll deepen content knowledge, become better versed and skilled with NGSS and engineering, and grow your professional network. Participants receive a small stipend and science supplies for their classroom. Academic year support and PD included. / Applications, due May 1st, available online at

FALL SEMESTER:
SCED553 – Science Learning in Informal Settings
Tuesdays, 5-7:45 / Examines characteristics of non-school learning settings (e.g., science museums, zoos, aquaria, nature centers, homes) and how they promote (or hinder) scientific understanding. Multiple theoretical perspectives examined. Authentic evaluation/research project with local institution. / Tuition required to take this 3-unit course. (grad level, counts for units on the salary scale)

SCED502 – Physical Science Applications for K8 Teachers
Thursdays, 5-7:45 / Investigates physical science topics with focus on deepening students' science understanding while showcasing applications of physical science for students' personal lives and their K-8 classrooms and schools.This class aligns with NGSS – you will deepen content knowledge and experience science learning through 3dimensions. / Tuition required to take this 3-unit course. (grad level, counts for units on the salary scale)

Master’s in Science Education, Option for K-8 Join the Master’s degree program at CSULB. Learn more science, be up to date on science instruction and reform, understand how to make sense of and do science education & educational research. Applications due May 31, 2017 for fall 2017 start date. All classes are available in the late afternoon/evening (program is designed for working professionals).
