HP Service Manager 7.01 Client Installation Instructions

You must have local administrator privileges to install the Service Manager client.

The Windows client requires that the workspace and configuration folders are writable. The client workspace and configuration information is stored, by default, in the following directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Service Manager.

Windows client installation requirements

OS Windows 2000 Windows 2000 or XP

HD 150 MB Help Server installed 150 MB with Help Server installed

300 MB with documentation installed

Resolution 800 x 600 (16 colors) 1280 x 1024 (256 colors)

Network 100 Megabit 100+ Megabit

1. Download (save to your machine) the Service Manager Installation file named 7.01.053.exe (obtain it here https://aida.mc.vanderbilt.edu/itsmadmin/attachments/resources/7.01.053.exe)
Once downloaded, double-click the file to begin the installation

Select English and click OK

2. Click Next at the Welcome screen

3. Select the I accept the terms in the License Agreement option. Click Next.

The Select Installation Folder page opens.

4. Do one of the following:

a. Click Next to accept the default installation folder.

The default installation folder is: C:\Program Files\HP\Service Manager 7.00\Client

b. Click Browse to choose a different installation location.

5. Important: Uncheck the box next to HP Service Manager Client Administrative Tools. Your screen should look like this:

After un-checking the box, Click Next to prepare the installation process.

9. Click Install to begin copying the installation files.

The Completing the Service Manager Client Setup wizard dialog box opens when the installation is complete.

10. Click Finish to exit the Setup wizard.

The client installation is complete.

To start the Service Manager client,

Click Start

Select Programs

Select the HP folder

Select Service Manager 7.01


Defining a New Service Manager Client Connection

The first time you access the client, the Create, manage, and use Connections window opens letting you define a new connection to the Service Manager host server.

1. Click on the New Launch Configuration button to create a new connection

The Connections screen will appear:

2. Enter the following information:

· Name: Service Manager Production

· Server host name: servicemanager.mc.vanderbilt.edu

· Server port number: 1100

3. Click Apply to save your connection settings.

Type in your VUNet password and click Connect – Do not select the Remember my password and automatically login options.

You should now be logged in to Service Manager Production

To Log out of the Client, Click File and select Disconnect
