DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Development is responsible for leading Albuquerque Rescue Mission’s Development Department as adopted by the Board of Directors, meeting ambitious fundraising goals. Minister the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in word or deed as directed or as the need shall dictate in fulfilling the responsibilities under the great commission.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY:
Operates with minimal direction from the Executive Director; is given appreciable latitude for independent action and decisions commensurate with demonstrated ability, following policy guidelines, department objectives, and applicable laws, rules, and ordinances.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning
- Evaluates the results of all resource development initiatives including but not limited to campaigns, events, grant proposals, direct mail campaigns and other resource development programs and recommends modifications or new strategies to proactively support the achievement of development and fundraising goals.
- Collaborates with the Board of Directors, its Committees & the Executive Director to implement our strategic plan.
- Designs, implements and manages all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, planned giving and special projects.
Fundraising –Donors & Foundations
- Works with the Executive Director to develop and cultivate relationships with all public and private donors.
- Creates a working pipeline of donor/prospects and to cultivate, solicit and steward in accordance with the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Ethics.
- Identifies new prospects for making annual gifts, major gifts and planned gifts. Arranges direct asks.
- Supervises and supports annual fundraising events –works with Event Manager, Development Staff, and Volunteer Coordinator to obtain sponsorships, volunteer teams, and ticket sales necessary to reach budgeted goals.
- Participate in the donor management process by working with other members of the team to develop strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward all individual donors and by advancing fundraising strategies through interaction with donors in the community and at all events.
Board of Directors Relations
- Collaborates with ED & Board of Directors to identify fundraising training needs for Board Members and other leadership volunteers & assist in addressing those needs.
- Reports development activities, and attends board meetings as requested.
- Assists the board with recommending and researching potential new members.
- Utilizes Board Members where necessary and willing to participate in solicitation activities.
Development Office Infrastructure
- Supervises maintenance of donor and gift record keeping & acknowledgments.
- Works collaboratively with Development Associate (Mari) to ensure accurate record keeping, reporting and communicating with donors.
- Works collaboratively with Communications Department overseeing all communications to donor/prospects.
- Contributes to the planning and execution of traditional mail marketing.
- Seeks out public speaking opportunities, promoting the Albuquerque Rescue Mission’s services, donor and volunteer opportunities. Work with Communications and Rescue Mission Constituents to develop their stories and powerful ways to share them.
Other responsibilities assigned and not limited to those above.
NOTE: SOME BENDING AND LIFTING ARE REQUIRED ON THE JOB.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Executive Director
DAYS/HOURS:This position is full-time, at 40 hours per week between 7:30a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. NOTE: This position is exempt from overtime pay.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three to five year’s professional fundraising experience.
- Adherence to highest ethical practices in fundraising & money management.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing a successful large-scale campaign and in direct asks resulting in major gifts and multi-year pledges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Independent self-starter with positive problem-solver attitude.
- Very computer literate (Word, Publisher, Excel), able to learn & use donor management software. Familiar with data base entry and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 + years professional fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success with large-scale capital campaigns.
- Demonstrated success building a multi-year pledge system with donors.
- Highly productive team player who will build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between the staff, Board, donors, volunteers and external audiences.
- Knowledge of community resources and contacts.
- Strategic thinker.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment with excellent time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, keep organized, and careful attention to detail.

Therefore, each employee is regarded as a full-time ambassador of Jesus Christ and of Albuquerque Rescue
Mission. All employees shall behave on and off the job in a manner consistent with the mission of Albuquerque
Rescue Mission as an organization committed to declaring and demonstrating the message, mission and character of
Jesus Christ. Each employee shall pray for Albuquerque Rescue Mission, its staff, its Ministry and its public
constituency on a regular basis. Each employee shall regularly participate in staff devotional activities as his/her
other duties permit and shall be prepared to pray with and provide biblical counsel to those seeking ministry
services, if and when periodically requested by his/her supervisor.
The specific minimum spiritual requirements (referred to above) are as follows:
Have experienced spiritual conversion in Jesus Christ and confess Him as Savior and Lord.
Evidence the person and character of Jesus Christ in daily life by applying themselves towardgrowth in spiritual maturity.
Be a consistent/committed participant in or actively searching for a local Christian church thatespouses spiritual conversion, as testified by a Pastor or Christian leader.
Sincerely care for homeless people.
Sincerely support the purposes of A.R.M.
Abstain, or be willing to spiritually mature toward abstinence, from unregenerate habits andactivities which impacts or impairs performance or witness as an employee or board member.
Have the desire and ability to work in harmony with other staff members from varying
denominational backgrounds.
