Civilizations of the AmericasMuseum Project

Task #1 Group work
You will be working in a large group of 8-10 students. Each group will complete research on one of the following civilizations: The Maya, The Aztec, or The Inca. Within the large group, you will pair up with another student and choose a research topic.
Task #2 Research
You and your partner will use the school library and the computer lab to aid you in your research. You may wish to use the public library as well, since you will not be allowed to check books out from the school library during the research phase of the project.
Each member of the pair is responsible for doing their own research on the assigned topic, therefore each person must submit three (3) or more pages of research notes.
Each member is required to turn in a bibliography (MLA format required) with at least three (3) different resources used. Books, encyclopedias, and the internet are ALL required.
Task # 3 Museum Display
You and your partner will create a video, tri-fold display, model, diorama, power point slide show, a ceiling to floor poster (4’ x 8’ only),or any other creative project which displays important elements and information about your assigned topic.
Think about how you will create a professional display that could be submitted to a museum. Create a display that is both accurate and entertaining. Your display will be enhanced by the proper use of colors, borders, lettering, labels, pictures, props, maps, audio or video resources, and exhibits creativity and effort.
Try to limit the written word on your display. Your brochure will have all the important information in it!
Try to complete your project early, so you can improve upon it before the due date if you need to!
Plan carefully! Your display must be planned out on paper including a sketch of your plan and a summary of what you and your partner are creating. This is due to Mr. Imrie by Friday, April 28th. 10 Points possible
Task # 4 Brochure
You and your partner are to create an informational brochure using the information you gathered during the research phase of the project, to accompany your museum display.
The brochure needs to include the following:
- The brochure must have a front cover that includes a title and a picture that is related to your topic.It must have both partners’ names, the due date, and the class period.
- Inside the brochure, on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th panels, you must have a title for each subtopic, and information related to that subtopic. You may have one small picture related to the subtopic for each panel.
- For the 5th and 6th panels located on the back of the brochure, you must have a title for each subtopic, and information related to the subtopic. You may have a small picture related to the subtopic for each panel.
Assessment
You will be assessed on the following criteria:100 Points
Partner Work
Ability to cooperate with a partner, follow instructions, contribute to the10 Points
research, planning, and production of the museum display, and meet deadlines.
Museum Display
The museum display is informative, looks professional, and reflects effort 40 Points
and creativity.
Brochure
The brochure includes important information on the assigned topic. It has 20 Points
a title pagethat includes a picture related to the topic, the names of the team,
the due date, and the classperiod. Panels 2-6 have titles of the subtopics,
information under each title, and includes a small picturerelated to the subtopic.
Research
Each partner must submit three (3) or more pages of research notes.20 Points
Bibliography
Each partner must submit a bibliography that has at least three (3) different10 Points
references, includingbooks, encyclopedias, magazine articles, or internet.
Use the MLA format provided.
