Agenda Item #4: HEW SG Straw Poll Results

Osama Aboul-Magd (Huawei Technoogies), Chair of HEW SG, explained the HEW SG Straw Poll Results, based on 13/1493r0.

Straw Poll Results

SP#1: Qualitative PAR or Quantitative PAR?  Quantitative PAR 57%, Qualitative PAR 43%.

SP#2: Number of metrics?  One metric 28%, two metrics 45%, more than two metrics 27%.

SP#3: Which metric to be included in PAR scope? (Choose one)  Clear preference on “Area Throughput” and “Per STA Throughput”

SP#4: Which metrics to be included in PAR scope? (Choose more than one) “Area Throughput” and “Per User Throughput” were the top two metrics.

C: It is difficult to define “Area Throughput”

C: “Per STA Throughput” also is not clear enough.

C: The scope of HEW is efficiency. Need to understand how throughput relate to efficiency.

<Next Step>

January meeting will be dedicated to PAR and 5C discussions.

Tutorial will be planned for the March 2014 session.

Agenda Item #5: Dense Apartment Complex Capacity Improvements withChannel selection and Dynamic Sensitivity Control

Graham Smith (DSP Group), presented “Dense Apartment Capacity Improvements with Channel selection and Dynamic Sensitivity Control”, based on 13/1487r2.

C: Video rate of 100 M bit/s is too high.  It is referred from the usage models document.

Q: How those results were derived?  Channel selection was based on simulation. Other part was numerical analysis.

Q: How high the sensitivity can be?  It depends on the margin

Q: Any other analysis on the dynamic sensitivity control?  13/1012r4

C: Need more analysis considering the relation between SINR, MCS and margin.  Graham agreed.

Agenda Item #6: 802.11 HEW Draft PAR and 5C

Osama Aboul-Magd (Huawei Technologies), presented “HEW Draft PAR and 5C”, based on 13/1410r1.

C: Need to visit web site of IEEE-SA to check if we are using the latest format. Also need to check how to fill the sections 5.2a since “scope of complete standard” could mean the scope of the base standard.

C: The scope text does not reflect the results of straw polls.

C: Text for Compatibility in 5C may not be good for HEW. It looks good for TGak.

<Next Step>

10-day comment collection will take place after the call.

Agenda Item #7: Airport Capacity Analysis not presented due to lack of time.

Agenda Item #8: AOB

Next Step

There will be comment collection on the PAR and 5C document.

Next Call

Date & Time: December 18th, 20:00–22:00 (ET)

No other business to conduct.

Agenda Item #9: Adjourn:

The meeting is adjourned at 11:52 AM ET.
