Why Sonnet?

regulating power to each port independently (giving each one protection from power glitches on the side by side ports.

Without this protection (such as found on an ordinary cards), connects and disconnects of one device may cause auto-disconnects of the other.

TB3 Echo SEL & Echo SE I

Important to mention:

•Mac and PC compatible

•1 slot expansion chassis

•TB2 upgradeable to TB3

•Thunderbolt cable included

•Both fits in XMacPro and R-III Mobile Rack – our Spanish DIT Reseller test it (from the back)

•0.5 passive cable

TB3 Echo III-D & III-R

Important to mention:

3 slot chassis

Mac compatible only

Multi slot chassis have an extra bridge chip which allows electrical 8 lane and converting down to 4 lane without losing performance. This makes it possible that PCIE 2.0 cards will perform better in a TB3 chassis as in a

Echo SEL and SE1 without bridge chip.

It’s not the additional slots which are expensive, but the bridge chip and more fans to keep the cards cool together in one space. (With a bridge chip you can do a lot of things 24 lanes 2 slot of8 lanes and 1 slot of 4 lanes etc.)

TB2 Upgradeable to TB3 when product is shipping

Thunderbolt cable included –includes now a 1 meter active cable which doesn’t work with the Sonnet Thunderlock – if the

Will soon ship with TB 3 cables with thunder lock again - for active1 meter cable - will be called Thunderlock 3

Will only be Mac certified – windows computer don’t work 100% with bridge chip solutions yet there fore Intel will not certify multi slot chassis for windows. We expect windows to fix this by 2018

Do you have customers who need more GPU /graphicpower or you need more?

Important to mention:

•PC & Mac

•eGPU cards see our list on the Sonnet web page 95% of the cards work with the 350

•Works perfectly with windows see recommended PCs and other info on our product web page under windows

•If you want to use High SierramacOS 10.13.4 you need to use AMD cards. Currently, external Graphics Support is Beta and a work in progress.

•To use NVIDIA cards with MacOS -you need to be running Sierra 10.12.It’s difficult to go back once you have loaded High Sierra.

◦The forums have various procedures for using NVIDIA with macOS 10.13, but the graphics APIs have changed between macOS 10.12 and macOS 10.13, and these hacks leave external NVIDIA graphics only partially functional with macOS 10.13. We wouldn’t recommend it.

◦How to useNvidia cards on Sierra 10.12 you need following scriptegpu.ioor ask Jolanda for an installation guide.

•Why are the chassis so big?

◦Quieter – we have the quietest unit in the market

◦Space for water cooler which would make the chassis whisper quiet

•We expect Apple to disable external graphics for Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 Macs starting with macOS 10.13.4.

•External Graphics on BootCamp is not supported by AMD, NVIDIA, Apple or Sonnet.

TB3eGFX Breakaway box 350, 550, 650 & Puck 560, 570

•350 breakaway box– 15 watts default can only charge computer when on sleep – for people power is not important

8 + 6 pin support

•550 breakaway box-87 watts can charge MacBook Pro. Some PCs will not allow charging. If something needs less charging

it will negojateand provide charge as needed, if the devise allows it.

8+8 pin support – highest over clock cards will work

•New - 650 breakaway boxfor Vega 64 cards – ETA March 7th

◦The Breakaway Box 650 is currently the only eGPU chassis that supports AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 andAMD Radeon Pro WX 9100graphics cards

◦It’s plug andplay with the above cards

◦can simultaneously charge laptops up to 87W.

◦Each graphics card has short-term peak loads that far exceed the 375W. The "up to 375W" is only an average power consumption. Peak power consumption can be 2-3 times higher for a short time.

◦Our Breakaway Box 650 has been tested with AMD and certified for high-end AMD cards. We have a unique market position because our competitors' power supplies can not deliver the peak loads mentioned above. This is noticeable when the eGPU system fails spontaneously after some time (similar to a power failure).

What is new:

Sonnet has tested quite a lot of Adobe apps using eGPUs on a Mac. It looks like Adobe applications get only a marginal performance increase through eGPUs. As of right now, it doesn't appear to make sense investing in an eGPU for Adobe products. We know that Adobe is testing external graphics as well, so maybe we will get improvements over time as they are hopefully going to improve their software.

Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 machines will most likely be locked out permanently. I understand Apples decision from a technical support standpoint, they can't guarantee optimal performance with all Thunderbolt 1 and 2 machines. Maybe third party developers will find a way to unlock those machines again.

Gaming Market

If an RX580 has enough power for you

you may want to consider theRX 570 Breakaway Puck, that is almost as fast as an RX580,

•More portable

•Target market the go-to eGPUs for ultrabooks.

•See the product page for some examples of frame rates for some popular games that would be unplayable without a Puck.

•Our Pucks were also used at the Intel Extreme Masters 2017. See this shortvideo.

Professional Market - new

•New iMac Prouses the AMD Radeon Vega 64

•You can use an AMD Vega 56 with our Breakaway Box 550,or an AMD Vega 64 (or Radeon Pro WX 9100) with our Breakaway Box 650 ( ETA March 7th) and it will be almost as fast, but more cost effective

•Complete usage guidelines are here…goo.gl/BWSCxG. Note that AMD is plug-and-play - we can sendthe link

•You can usetwoBreakaway Boxes with AMD cards on the same Thunderbolt3 Mac.Some applications support multiple GPUs, and we should have benchmark results soon.

•You can add to your newiMac Pro an additional or even 2 x 64 Vega cad through the Sonnet 650 boxes - it will make it morepowerful

•You can use2 x 650 boxes withtwoVega 64 - with sameprocessingpowerand get more than an iMacpro

Once we have access to the iMac Pro, we will do extensive benchmarking. Meanwhile, here are some "Pure GPU" benchmarks we ran with the RX Vega 64 installed in two different Mac Pros. The native High Sierra drivers for the Pro Vega in the iMac Pro open the way for the desktop version, RX Vega, to become essentially an Apple 'blessed' GPU upgrade for Mac Pro towers and (with the help of an eGPU box) Mac Pro cylinders.
