  1. Describe Ivan and General Zaroff. Include physical appearance and other details.
  1. Why does General Zaroff recognize Rainsford’s name?
  1. What is ‘The Most Dangerous Game’? Share the puns you wrote about in your ‘Do Now’. How is the title of this short story a play on words (PUN)/What is the double meaning?
  1. How many days does the ‘game’ last?
  1. Why did General Zaroff decide to begin playing this ‘game’?
  1. How does the general “help Providence” to bring him prey/men to hunt on his island?
  1. Where does Rainsford hide on the first night of the game, and what happens when Zaroff finds him?
  1. Who or what does Rainsford catch in his “Burmese Tiger Pit”?

  1. Who wins the game, and how? What happens to Zaroff in the end (inference)?
  1. Provide one or more examples of IRONY from the story and identify the types of irony.
  1. Now discuss your answers to the true or false survey questions you answered in your do now. How do they relate to the story? Is hunting ethical? If so, under what conditions? Write a CLAIM for an argument essay on the topic.

Lesson:

Desks in groups (maybe six groups: assign them!)

Have them individually complete the do now.

Then, tell them they have 20 minutes ONLY to complete ALL of the remaining questions. I will then be calling on individuals to answer questions. You should be able to provide a quotation to support your response if called upon.

After 20 minutes, use flashcards to quickly call upon students to answer all questions.

Homework – study vocabulary and grammar and get organized. We will begin our final unit (on Shakespeare) on Monday.
