CJMQ 88.9 FM - Rules and Regulations

This document is basically a quick rundown of what is expected from you as a CJMQ volunteer broadcaster. In all cases we want to stress that being on air is a serious responsibility and that we expect you to act in a professional manner!

Your Obligations

1 Respect the equipment! Replacing broken equipment is expensive. You should treat everything at CJMQ with the utmost care and respect! The wall foam is to be left alone! No fancy deejay scratching on the turntables, please!

2 CanCon: Short for Canadian Content which as part of our licence we have to play 35% of ! If you do a speciality show (jazz, country, classical), you can fudge it a bit although you should still try to find out what is out there. No idea at all, read the Big Book of Cancon or ask us for suggestions.

3. Promptness: We expect you to show up to ALL of your shows! If you really can’t make it, you must give us adequate warning! Failure to do so could result in the loss of your program. Also please show up at 10 minutes in advance - this will give you enough time to set up and not go huffing and puffing on air!

4. Drugs, alcohol and smoking are Bad! You cannot be drunk (or otherwise..)while doing your show – if campus security catches you , you’ll get fined and if we catch you, you’ll lose your show. As well, no smoking on CJMQ property (it is against Bishop’s regulations and the smoke damages the CD players). Furthermore, no promoting of drugs or alcohol on air (for example, no mentioning weekly specials at your favourite bar).

5 No inappropriate behaviour in the booth or offices of CJMQ

6. No Food or drinks in the booth!

7. Guests, No more than 3 people in the station for a show at any one time INCLUDING host and co-host. So if you’re a two person tag-team duo, you can only have one guest / friends / girlfriend along for the ride. Also, you’re responsible for whoever tags along so if they mess up, You are in the hot seat, not them!

8. Play the sponsorships each hour – look at the ad schedule to find out which! These are the people who give us money to keep us on-air, so be good to them! You are not allowed to do any independent promotions of any kind all ads and promotions must go through CJMQ.

9. No Slander or Libel! If you slander someone over the air it could result in big trouble for you and the station!

10. Individual programs cannot receive separate sponsorship or funding in any form, government funded programming must come through the offices of CJMQ, no exceptions.
