A Message from Principal DeVinna and Principal Frost

Welcome to Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy.

To our OMI Parents:

Your child’s success while a cadet at OMI and after graduation is what drives us. We have high expectations because we know your child can reach them and in turn soar towards their goals in school and beyond. Every cadet is a valuable member of the OMI community. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with parents will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

We ask that you guide and support your cadet’s learning by ensuring that they:

●  Attend school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience including being in full uniform taking special time to note if they have their ID tag, hair appropriate styled, and nails meet OMI’s uniform standards

●  Completes all assignments given by teachers; you are encouraged to use the Aeries parent portal often to check student progress and contact teachers

●  Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills and meet their Lexile (reading) level growth target to be ready to succeed in college

●  Shares OMI experiences with you so that you are aware of their school life

●  Know that you expect him/her to succeed at OMI and go on to college

Academics, Citizenship, Leadership, Athletics, the four pillars of OMI are designed to provide your child a well rounded experience in order to become leaders of character, not only during their time with OMI, but long after they graduate from college. Speaking from personal experience, we know the impact of high expectations in the classroom as well as outside on the field. Leadership and citizenship are built by rigorous experiences that challenge us to step up and demonstrate our willingness to try, fail, and try again. OMI, through it’s partnership with the California National Guard, California Cadet Corps, and the Coast Guard is able to enhance the experience for cadets, by providing structure, support, and guidance through their presence on campus and the training and education cadets receives in Leaders of Character class. Cadets also are developed through the experience of being a member of a company overseen and led by an experienced member of the National Guard. The focus on academic in all things while developing cadet’s leadership, citizenship, and physical fitness is what makes OMI a very special place.

Here is to a great school year for each and every OMI cadet.
