4. Sanjit decides to apply for a license to sell liquor in his restaurant.
5. Mario and Silvio are involved in a traffic accident with a truck
belonging to the Canadian Army. The police decide the soldier
who was driving the truck was at fault. Mario was injured in the
accident and wants to sue the government for compensation.
6. Five-dollar bills are removed from circulation and replaced by a
new coin.
7. Scientists report that stocks of the rare galaba fish are dwindling
quickly. Unless galaba fishing by Canadian and international
f ishers is stopped, the galaba will soon become extinct.
8. Alex wants to start a business selling high-tech widgets, but must
first register his company.
9. An Aboriginal band wishes to claim land that it never gave up in a
treaty.
10. A new expressway is needed in Cambridge. The route chosen
means that the home of the Singh family and their neighbours
must be demolished. The Singhs are very upset and want the
route changed.
11. Aaron Wolf robbed a bank in Saskatoon. He fled to his parents’s
farm outside of Alberta, thinking that he would be safe because he
was outside Saskatchewan.
12. The city of North Bay decides that it wants to build a subway. To
carry out this plan, the city must get permission from another
level of government.
13. To commemorate the struggle of Black slaves escaping from the
United States to freedom in Canada, the government decides to
issue a new stamp.
14. The government has declared all tobacco products illegal. This
will destroy tobacco farmers in Norfolk County, Ontario. The
farmers protest by blocking entry to government offices with their
tractors. They hope to persuade the government to change its mind
or to offer them financial help while they switch to growing
another crop.
15. Wells serving the residents of Newmanville have been
contaminated. The town’s water is not safe to drink. The town
needs emergency water and help to fix the problem.
