Details:

The DLCL offers funding to all students who declare a MAJOR in our department. Should you not complete the major, you could be asked to reimburse the DLCL for these funds. The purpose is to support intensive summer language study.

We strongly encourage students interested in French research projects to apply to: deadline is February 7, 2018.

The undergraduate committee will evaluate applications on the strength of the proposal as part of a competitive pool. In preparing your proposal, please consult with the appropriate Chair of Undergraduate Studies (French: Prof. Marisa Galvez; Italian: Prof. Robert Harrison; ILAC: Prof. Lisa Surwillo; German: Prof. Matthew Smith; Slavic: Prof. Nariman Skakov; Comparative Literature: Prof. Alexander Key

Funding can be used to cover travel (airfare and additional transportation), tuition for summer language study at an accredited school, lodging (if separate from tuition).

If you are awarded a grant, you must show proof of current enrollment to the Student Affairs Officer, Denise Winters.

This grant is not intended for seniors, and requires the student to be enrolled in Autumn 18/19.

To apply for the language grant, you are required to supply the syllabus of the language course, (it must be a course, not tutoring or independent study) and the website address of the accredited school showing tuition information. For example, Middlebury offers manysummer language courses You are to enroll for a letter grade andcomplete an OPI test administered through Stanford Language Center once before summer and again within a month of your return in autumn to show improvement.

Language grant recipients must send a paragraph or two explaining how the funds enabled you to see and/ordo more than you would have been able to without the funds to by October 1st, 2017.

To apply: Submit your completed proposal on or before February 14, 2018. You may be asked to revise for clarity, accuracy, or completeness. Your proposal will go before the undergraduate committee and you will be notified of approval or denial aroundApril 1st, 2018. Funds will not be released until actual expenses have been confirmed. We can arrange to pay tuition directly.

After approval: Please discuss your plans with the Student Affairs Officer. Enroll in language study as soon as possible.
