Specialist – Communications Technology

Qualifications

1.  / AA in broadcasting, marketing, public relations, advertising or a related field from and accredited educational institution required.
2.  / Minimum of three years’ experience in television, broadcast journalism, or television programing – preferably in a school environment.
3.  / Strong technical background and sound organizational skills.
4.  / Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects required; additional knowledge of Photoshop preferred.
5.  / Basic understanding of computer networking preferred.
6.  / Valid Florida Driver License.
Job Goal
Plan and implement the scheduling of televised content from multiple sources. Facilitate the training of teachers and students in support of the Division of Curriculum & Instruction, Staff Development, and District activities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of on-air broadcast equipment, switch, satellite, in-house fiber, and multiple audio/video input systems. Ability to produce and broadcast professional quality, live, videotaped, and scrolling text video productions. Knowledge of software applications for television production. Knowledge of maintaining broadcast and television production equipment with skills in computer aided video editing, electronic field production, multi-camera directing, and production organization. Ability to record or transmit broadcasts by down-linking from satellite systems. Knowledge of statues, guidelines, and regulations that relate to school and government access on a cable system. Ability to find and use outside resources to enhance station goals. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening hours and occasional weekends.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions

1.  / Operate studio and portable television cameras.
2.  / Produce education and training films and video tape suitable for broadcast.
3.  / Set up and operate video production equipment such as cameras, lights, audio, etc., along with editing and copying graphics, in the studio and at remote locations for recording and transmitting broadcasts.
4.  / Prepare the studio or remote locations for broadcasts.
5.  / Communicate with Instructional Services, Staff Development, and District Communications in making programming decision and in acquiring appropriate programming for the station.
6.  / Initiate and develop standards, procedures, and systems for the efficient operation of the station and assist in the station’s future growth.
7.  / Maintain required records, including logs, to record equipment usage and location of equipment, licenses, posted documents, as well as a video/digital library catalog of all programming.
8.  / Provide graphic and design support for all digital media.
9.  / Support the District’s Internet site with digital broadcasting.
10.  / Responds to viewer questions, comments, and requests.
11.  / Maintain and manage all graphics files.
12.  / Maintain and manage District’s social media sites and accounts, monitoring regularly and managing content.
13.  / Coordinate free programming with BPS partners.
14.  / Strategic planning of programs to increase viewership and positive public relations related to District goals.
15.  / Communicate BPS-TV schedule with stakeholders.
16.  / Oversee program for technology efficiencies and production quality.
17.  / Manage video-on-demand services.
18.  / Summarize weekly program highlights.
19.  / Create Purchase Orders and order supplies as necessary for all productions.
20.  / Coordinate with BPS-TV Production Specialist for final editing, production, and scheduling.
21.  / Distribute BPS-TV monthly programming grid to District staff and the Customer Service Center.
22.  / Perform other duties as assigned.
23.  / Provide outstanding customer service and use positive interpersonal communications skills.
24.  / Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools’ Organizational Values.
25.  / Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.
