Walt has been a Greater Pittsburgh resident since he was born in 1938, growing up in the East

End and then, after marrying Harriet Zervos in 1965, moving first to Bellevue and then to Ambridge, Harriet’s home town. Harriet & Walt have two daughters, Kathleen (Michael Marvin) and Valerie (Micah Lerch) and four grandchildren, Nicholas and Elena Marvin, Luca and Thane Lerch.
Walt graduated from Shady Side Academy in 1955 and from the University of Pittsburgh with a BBA degree in 1959. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a professional photographer, first as co-owner of a photography studio in downtown Pittsburgh, then owning his own studio and mini-lab in Ambridge. Walt’s last 10 years before retirement in 2005 were with the Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as Board Administrator.

Harriet graduated from Duquesne University’s School of Education in 1971, and later received her Master’s Degree from Robert Morris University. She was a Business Teacher at Ambridge Area High School.

Walt first joined the Pittsburgh Rotary Club in 1967, where he served as Community Service Chairman for one year. In 1975, Harriet and Walt moved to Ambridge and Walt transferred his membership to the Ambridge Rotary Club, serving as Club President four separate terms. He also served as Assistant Governor for PDG Ernie Buckman, PDG Rick Martin and PDG Cindy Sakala.

When she retired in 2005, Harriet also joined the Ambridge Rotary Club. She then served as District Secretary for PDG Rick Martin during his year as Governor.

In 2006, Walt participated in three Katrina Relief trips to Biloxi MS, and then chaired the District 7300 Katrina Relief Committee for two years.

Walt & Harriet have attended five RI Conventions: Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Montreal andNew Orleans and Lisbon.Walt also attended the 2012 convention in Bangkok, and has chaired the District RI Convention Committee three years.

Both Walt and Harriet are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities awaiting them in the year ahead, and are eager to further serve their fellow man by “Engaging Rotary and Changing Lives”, working together with the entire, worldwide family of Rotary.
